Normal??

Occasionally this happens when I start my L up when it has sat overnight.

Mines done it since new. It now has 64,000 miles on the clock and oddly enough I don't notice near as much now as I did when it was a virgin. HEHE I said virgin.

the tailpipes are hooked up to the engines exhaust system, so smoke is quite normal
smoke at startup could be a few things- if it's just like in the morning its probabley condensation, or if it's after the engine cools off it's probabley just a gasket. if it's a gasket it's not a problem, just when the engine is cold the gasket will be cold and slightly smaller, but is normal
