Lightbulb HELLPPP!! Please! Quick! *UPDATE*

If anyone can help, please offer me some tips!

Here's the problem: Driving home tonight, no problems. Stopped at my exit, complete stop, went again, no problems. A few feet later had to stop for someone, and when I touched the gas again, the truck bogged, so I let off the gas a bit, and eased it in, and it went ok. Started getting worse and worse on the rest of my 5 mile 35mph trip. Slowing down then accelerating was bogging on and off. Pulled into a gas station, cuz the Low Fuel light just went on. Put in about 7 gallons, revved it a bit, no bog. Pulled out of the pump with light throttle, no bog. Went to get into traffic after a complete stop - bogged pretty bad, and had to EASEEEEEEEEEE it on the throttle to get up to speed. I was able to keep the speed for a bit, until I would give it gas, even at 35 mph it would bog. Bog got so bad, that the next time I had to come to almost a complete stop - it was bogging SO bad, the RPMs would drop to next to nothing and it would almost die. Had to limp the rest of the way (1 mile) home at 15mph - couldnt go faster.

Any ideas??! I have a chip (for over 20k miles) filter and 3# pulley. Have had NO problems in the 24k miles that are on the truck. OH and NO CHECK ENGINE light on...

I was thinking GAS problem, but y would it just get worse? Is it starved for gas? I dont think it's a blown plug, cuz it got progressively worse...

THANKS a TON in advance!!! Please, PLEASE HELP!

UPDATE...

20 minutes later after letting it sit with the new 1/8 tank of gas, started up a little bit rough, then idled a bit rough, but some throttle and it smoothed out a bit. Still when you blip the throttle, it bogs a bit, but I can at least rev it up higher now and it smooths out...

Water in the gas maybe??? never had this issue before??

Sounds like gas, or a lack of gas.
Since you have 24K on your truck, I believe you should have changed the fuel filter twice already, right?
That would be a good thing to replace now

**edit** you didn't say what year truck. But the 99's have a common fuel pump line problem. The tank needs to be dropped for this

It sounds to me like the common hose blown off one of the in tank fuel pumps issue. You still have one connected, so it supplies enough to keep the truck running, but any demand for fuel and it bogs and bucks lean.

Ya what they said, or you melted a plug. You'd be surprised how good they can run with melted plugs. Mine booged down like that when I toasted three TR-6's. It was fine on idle, hard to get up to speed without feeling the roughness, dead spots in the pedal, etc...

I'd say change the filter first (easy) then check some plugs (pain in the ***) then drop the tank and check what Sal said (royal pain in the ***)

Keep us informed, GOOD LUCK

Thanks everyone!! I'm going to start it again in a few minutes to see if the problem doesnt go away, as it seems to be getting better....

the last time I started it after waiting 20 mins, it seemed better, and blipping the throttle wasn't HALF as bad as before.

You guys ROCK ... Thanks for the ideas... I'll post once I try starting it again.

According to his profile, it's an 01 L. I vote for a clogged fuel filter especially since he let it get so low on fuel.................

Thumbs down

Still the same... just as bad if not worse. I tried to take it around the block, almost died a bunch of times. Almost sounds like what Sal was saying about being starved for gas, and the common line off the pump....

Probably going to try to hobble to Ford, as their service dept is open until 12 midnite

Hope it nothing more than a badgas line issue... ugh. If it's not one thing, it's another

and ya, it's an 01L with 24k, unchanged fuel filter, miles... hope it's as simple as that, but the truck has been running 100% until tonight??

DID HE SAY 24K WITHOUT CHANGING A FILTER
Dude you can toast a motor that way
Here look at my filter at a little more than 5k (YES 5)
Only ran 93 octane Amoco from two stations and two stations only.

BTW
here's what it did in 12 seconds

Yep, Fuel filter. I saw that pic that Rob posted a while ago, after that I made SURE that the dealer changed the filter!!! They told me I didn't need it, I laughed and said "I don't really give a *****" , "Change it!!!!!" I will change it every other oil change!

*UPDATE*

Well, hobbled my way down to the dealer - about 5 miles at 5mph - 15mph, bucking and wanting to stall the entire way (gotta love running lights cuz it takes ya 1 minute to get up a hill)...

Dealer replaced fuel filter - still low fuel pressure (25psi? what's the norm?). They dropped the tank, found a cracked "nipple" on the fuel pump, replaced the fuel pump. Running "normal" again

Got a free fuel filter change out of it - hehehehe

Thanks again for all your input! ...and YES, I will be chaning my fuel filter from now on, at least every other oil change... I guess I was a *lucky* one for not killing my engine by starving it of gas. ...whew!
