gauge cluster

I have a 00' F150
The mph's on the gauge cluster reads 0-100
when the needle hits 100 the truck tops off.
I know the truck tops off at 100mph.

I wanted to switch my cluster with one from a 02' HD
(looks way better than my current one).

So here's my question. The mph on the 02' HD gauge cluster reads 0-140.

The 140 on the HD is in the same postion as the 100 on my truck
so since my truck tops off at 100mph will the needle on the HD cluster stop at 100 or go all the way to 140 since 140 is in the same place as 100 on the truck now.

(Would be cool to make people think the truck tops off at 140 when really its 100)

Almost forgot to ask. What needs to be done so the needle on the new cluster reads my speed correctly. Don't really want it reading that I'm going 90mph when in reality I'm going 50mph

You might want to check on one of the other F150 boards... I would think that, since you're replacing the entire cluster, it would operate exactly as it should... 100 being 100, 140 being 140.

Otherwise, ECU recalibration would be required, I would imagine.

But, we don't need to do that stuff with the Lightnings... We have 140MPH speedos from the factory.

Cool

HI!... There was a guy over at FORD TRUCK WORLD that juse recently installed a brand new LIGHTNING guage cluster in his normal F-150. He sais that it simply bolted in and calibrated it'self. If I'm not mistakin, I think the cluster has it own small PCM that works in conjunction with the truck's computer.
