well, I don't have a set YET, but as soon as they get here I'll give my opinion. I'll also try to get before and after dyno numbers on my otherwise stock (only 400miles) '03. I checked ups tracking earlier today (don't have the number in front of me right now) and it had left someplace in new jersey that starts with an "S" this morning at around 10:30. I assume on a plane, but maybe on a truck, so hopefully I'll have them tomorrow or the next day.

later,
chris

P.S. BTW Jim in case you didn't read the other post, 2003 Lightnings DO NOT use Mercon V like I told you the other day! what a screw up

No dyno #s but I have , E.T. #s . Ran a 12.59 at the lightning shootout w/o the headers and ran a 12.34 one week later with the headers.
The weather was the same and the only other variable was the rollpan , but I also ran with more fuel to offset it.
To be on the conservative side. 2 tenths gain.
Besides the chip and pulley ,this was the only other mod that I felt in the seat of my pants.I was very surprised at that as I usually do not feel each mod.

Very happy with quality and fit(did the exhaust in 4 hours in the driveway).

I prefer the rumble of the Dual mufflers.

That is Shawns handy work, he installed the system last winter when they installed the built motor. He does do awesome work and really pays attention to the little details.

No my truck isn't a show truck, it is a daily driver with over 42,000 miles on it. Just wait till spring I am doing a interior project that will blow your mind, and should make the truck lighter.

1. How loud is the Bassini? I want what Don say's he has...a truck I can drive 4-5 hours with NO DRONE. Will the Bassini be ok or do I need to get the JDM system like Don has? I do not mind it being loud at WOT, just NO DRONE at highway speeds.

Jerry
My friend Q8SVT has the bassani on his truck. Before he had the headers and high flow cats it droned a little. After he put the long tubes and highflow cats, the drone was reduced quite a bit. I drove 5 hours back from NJ with him after the headers/cats and it was much better. It is just a little louder than the magnaflows, but not much.

The headers smooth the sound of the bassani out.

I have yours/Kook's Long tube headers with the dual muffler setup!!!
I LOVE THE SOUND!!! Its not too loud for driving around town and going on vacation...BUT, when you mash the *** pedal...
IT's L-O-U-D!!!!
Fit is excellent and I wouldn't change a thing!!! If I had it to do again, I would buy the exact same system ( actually I am gonna buy the same system for my '03 )!!!!

Jim you saw me run 12.3x in Atlanta in the 90 degree weather...That was right after I did the Exhuast, T/B and Filter!!!

I love my Kooks and single magnaflow. It's high quality stuff. The single muffler is quiter but hey my neighbors don't give me any lip when I roll in at 1 in the morning or leave the house at 5am.

I dynoed before the exhast at 405/497. With the exhaust it went to 428/532. I've gained about +.2 in the 1/4.

Higher Dyno #s and lower E.Ts . it does not get any better then that.

Thumbs up

I have the full JDM exhaust with Jet Hot coated headers and a single Magnaflow muffler.

The install was easy, fit was perfect and quality is excellent. The JDM/Kooks headers are much easier to install than JBA shorty headers.

I chose the single Magnaflow because it's a little quieter at cruising speeds but really sings when you're in the throttle. This muffler is noticeably louder with headers and high flow cats.

I feel the most benefit at part throttle. It seems to pull much harder when pressing it a quarter throttle.

My biggest ET improvement seemed to be in heat. It was around .15 of a second in the quarter mile.

Thumbs up Long Tube Headers

Hey Jim, all I can say is I love the full meal deal you guys installed on my 2000 L a year ago. I've got the single Magnaflow with the internal X pipe and it sounds great. The quality of the Kooks longtubes is A1, and has given me lots of trouble free increased performance that I would highly recomend to anyone thinking of doing an exhaust upgrade to their Lightning, keep up the good work, John H.

weehee, I just checked ups tracking and it says my exhaust arrived in Richmond last night and went out for delivery at 2:30 this morning. Looks like I'll be receiving it today! sweet, gotta get to work so I.... (***** I was going to say so I could install it this afternoon, but I forgot I want to get a before dyno)

oh well, at least I can look at it until this weekend!

later,
chris

Thumbs up Proof in the pudding

I was runnning 12.50's at 109 with 4lb pulley, SB Throttle Body, E-fan, Cobra -R Water pump, Chip and filter.......with stock exhaust and converter. After I had a 6lb pulley and JDM Full Exhaust system installed...I have run best of 11.92 @114.6......stock converter. The truck with this setup dynoed 448 RWHP and 578 RWT. I would have to say Full exhaust system works awesome!! I prefer the duel oval mufflers. They offer nice big block sound upon acceleration, but do not kill you on a long trip cruising at 70 -80 mph.

So we searched around and the cheapest we could find the Bassani shorties for was $540. With our January special they come close to that. Back in the old days we installed some Bassani shorties and it actually takes longer to install the Bassani shorties than the long tubes. The complete dual muffler system with the JDM/Kooks headers is $1695 for the month of January. I'm not sure how much a complete system from Bassani is. Some people say $2100 and I've heard as low as $1800. I feel the pricing is close to the other systems that are out there for our trucks and yet with our headers you pickup horsepower throughout the whole RPM range.

Joe,

In what way did the pipes not fit right? In what way do you think we can improve upon the fit? This is the first I've heard of somebody having problems with the mid-pipes. Maybe you can take some pictures?

Jim@JDM

I don't have any pictures at the moment, but with the bassani X-pipe and the mid pipes it just wouldn't line up right. I tried several different variations and with no luck could I get it better then how I have it now. Its up there and I got it to fit, but I'm not sure if its the midpipes or the bassani exhuast that could be the problem. My bassani has been taken off allot and I know its had its share of abuse, but I've had it all apart and then re-fit it up there piece by piece twice now with the same results. I really can't say what is wrong since I have never seen another setup like mine in person, or any decent a pics yet.

When I purchased the exhuast I had a full bassani system and I know how much of a bitch they are to install. NEVER again will I do shorties on anything, not worth the time and effort for the gains. I do have the stainless steel setup so it was a tad bit more money, but the heat factor is worth it I think.
