Speed Grille Install Q's

Santa came through with speed grilles for the L this year and I got a bit confused when I went to install them. As I understand it, the speed grille attaches to the existing grill (black plastic piece) with the metal clips provided? They provide small and large clips to fasten the main grille, the small ones seem to secure the grille but the long clips, used to secure the main grille along the bottom, seem less than adequate. Has anyone ran into this problem? Anyone have an alternate mounting method? Also, there was no harware pr ovide with the lower grille insert, is this normal? How does it fasten to the lower grill?

Chit can the clips and use black zip ties. You can install it over the existing grille but the "bars" show thru. I ran mine that way for awhile untill I was sure I liked the new grille. After about a month I removed the grille assembly and cut the horizonal factory bars out of the factory grille opening. Never looked back

I installed these about a year ago.

The bottom grill is easy enough. I just removed the stock grill completly and used zip ties through the little eylets in the front bumper to hold in place. The upper is a pain. I removed the grill completley, then cut out the inside of it leaving the shell only. Used a dremmel for that. Then lined up new grill and marked off some of the holes. Drilled holes in the shell then snapped the grill on with these plastic panel studs that you can purchase from Autozone etc.

I have a few pics in my gallery of the finished job, good luck and take your time.

On my 01 I removed the factory upper and lower grilles..I had seen some pictures of them installed over the grilles and did not care for the look..Anyway, I insured I had the correct part numbers by calling Street Scene, for the 01 that is..The directions say they may be installed over the stock grille or remoce them which ever you prefer..The Valance piece was not really a problem....The uppper was a pain..I had to bend and shape it and truly am not satisfied with it..it looks great from a few feet off..I drilled some holes in the grillle surround..tabs, and threaded zip ties around the edges of the SS grill..while it looks great..getting reallly close shows the mounting ties and slight irregularities in the shape....use some masking tape so as not to scratch the grille surrround....
