5.4 aluminum blocks????

so with the lastest news on the new L concepts, is ford making 5.4 aluminum blocks already?

The new L concept is pretty sweet but I don't think I'm ready to buy a new truck just yet with my spending habbits, HAHAHAHA. I would rather get a new 5.4 aluminum block with either a 2 valve head or a 4 valve head if the technology is going to be possible when I'm ready. Then again how thats going to work with a works 140 blower is somthing that sal will have to chime in on.

Right now I'm just interested in the 5.4 block cause one thing is for certain, if I do get a new L with the new body style and setup. The 99 is going into full blown drag race production with roll cage and everything!!!!

Something tells me that if Ford does use the aluminum 5.4, it will probably be plagued with problems in the high-performance application and Ford won't address or correct the issues until the 3rd model year. Call it a gut feeling.

I guess I've just always been under the impression that alloy blocks won't stand up to FI very well, espcially the higher boost pressures some of you guys tend to run. And would these be wet iron liners or coated AL bores. Is there evidence that the cast iron block has weaknesses now when approaching 500hp. I thought the rods and heads (spark plug holes) were the weak point.

Well I have to say that chevy has the aluminum blocks down.

the LS1 motor is incredible and I think the decressed weight of the motor and the ability for aluminum to dissapate heat and dispearse cooling more efficiently will be awesome. With the technology we have I don't see it being that big of a problem for ford to come up with something.

What you have made there is just what I think of the proposed L. Big, fat, semi-sporty looking Faztec. Fat is not sporty. (Trucks that is)

Faztec!!!! Now why didn't I think of that! Glad to hear someone else feels the same way about the new L concept.

I believe colletti or scarpello (sp?) was quoted as saying that this will be THE high performance block that everyone will want this year or something like that. they have a crate motor coming out using it i think.

later,
chris

Jack Roush is quoted in Blue Oval saying that his
newest motors will be able to take 10,000 RPM, so
maybe some of that tech will work it's way into the
FORD product.

Thumbs up Aluminum Block

I agree with RT, I think Ford can make an aluminum block that will perform well in the new L. A nice bonus would be the excellent weight transfer we would get from the weight savings on the front end. I like the idea and just hope when they do build it, they put in the beefy lower internals as they have said they would, John H.

From what I am being told by Ford, the new 5.0 crate engine, and the 5.4 aluminum block are completely new castings. Supposedly to handle high horsepower applications.
