Coolers

Getting ready to ad a tranny cooler and an oil cooler. I am looking at the B&M plate style coolers, pros/cons? For the tranny I plan to use the 28,000 GVW (bigger the better) and possibly an external filter. For the oil I plan the cooler and a dual remote filter setup. I plan to use braided line and AN fittings where ever possible. Any input? Anyone else done similar?

I would advise against the oil cooler. There was a long discussion on oil coolers in the engine forum about them about 3-4 months ago, try a search. The point is that oil isn't supposed to be cool, as a matter of fact if it doesn't get hot enough water will collect in the crankcase, which is a bad thing. Considering that you live in a moist area, keeping water out is probably a high priority.

SB: Why do that? What dividend are you expecting? Do you tow a lot? You'll be adding weight, a source for leaks, etc.

If you just want to protect the trans, I would pump in a transmissionful of Redline D4(as I have). Mine has gone through a summer with temps in excess of 100*F days

Why not put in a 160*F 'stat and Royal Purple Synthetic oil if your eng. temps are getting too high?

Just some thoughts on my part.........

For the tranny I am adding a Monster Box and stall converter. Stall converters on the street develop a tremendous amout of heat. I want as much protection as possible. Between the cooler and aluminum deep sump pan I will be adding an additional 3-4 quarts of fluid.

The engine oil side of it is more for a future motor project. Added protection now and a necessity later.
