Rear End Oil

Well I took the L in to get the rear wheel stud replaced. Was a bit involved. Had to drain the rear end to pull the pin out. That made pulling the axle out possible.

My question is, they filled the rear with 80w 90w reg rear end oil and added a tube of some posi traction additive. Now the axle states synthetic oil only 75w 140w. will this be ok? Should I drain it and add the proper synthetic? I have driven it like 20 miles, seems fine but could this harm the rear end?

Thanks for any advice.

Hummm what the heck is 75-40? I think my manual calls for 80/90... I also believe the factory stuff is synthetic...

Had mine changed at the dealership after a bearing inspection, and they used 75-140 with a bottle of friction modifier.

LOL Justin...you know I'm watching you...lol j/k Another note about differential oil my buddy took his into Ford for some warranty stuff and though what the heck he would have Ford change the diff. oil. Well they did and within a few months the friction disc's burnt up in the carrier. He was doing the one wheel burnout thing.. He went back and looked at his paperwork and Ford had put 75/140 in. I'm not sure if they forgot the friction modifier or what but his friction disc's were shot. Well after Ford took it apart they told him he had the wrong oil in it and that is why it burnt up.. He said WTF you guys put that oil in... Well needless to say they fixed his rearend under warranty...lol Just a heads up on what I was told by my friend..
