Thoughts On Doing Away With The Cats All Together??

I have been thinking about replacing my factory cats with some high flow one's but I wonder if I would see a performance increase if I just did away with the cats all together? I am only running a 3# lower and a 75hp shot so I wonder if I would lose hp and torque if I completely did away with the cats? I could only imagine how bad @ss my L would sound with no cats and my Silver-Bullet cat-back.

Brian, if you're truck is a daily driver, I'm not too sure you will like it. The reason I say this is because taking the cats off makes the truck MUCH louder. I have had customers in the past, order catless midpipes from us, and I have warned them about the sound, and then they all call back within a week or two and order the high flows instead . I have no cats on my truck, but I made that choice because it was just one less thing to go wrong with all the testing we do. When I drive my truck around on the street, it does get annoying, but of course everyone has their own likes and dislikes. I will say, that nitrous trucks do respond well to no cats, they don't have the low end torque loss like non-sprayed trucks.

I do have a second suggestion though. On my 99, I removed the cats from my Bassani mid pipes, and replaced them with Dynomax Race Bullets. The race bullet gave me the same "no cat" straight through pipe, but kept the noise levels decent. The truck actually sounded it's best with that set up. Just and idea.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply Sal. My truck is only driven on the weekends so that really isn't a concern. I am really looking for the additional performance increase from either no cats or some Magnaflow high flow ones and would really like to increase the sound of my exhaust system especially at idle. My Silver Bullet cat-back sounds great but I would like it to be a little louder. From what I have heard replacing the factory cats with high flow one's really wakes ups the exhaust. If this is the case I might just install the Magnaflow high flow cats.

Thanks for the reply Rich. I think I am going to just replace the factory cats with the Magnaflow high flow cats. 1badtk posted that the high flow cats made a big difference in the sound of his truck so I will try them and see what happens!!

i had the bassani off road pipes on mine, for about a week. Idle and part throttle sounded awesome and full throttle sounded even better ,but half throttle and 3/4 throttle had a popping sound like a glasspack muffler wich i couldn't stand, i went with the high flo cats and the sound is just right. at idle and normal driving just loud enough and full throttle sounds awesome.

I had the setup like sal before with the bullet mufflers and my shorties and it sounded nice.

I can say from expereince last night I have no clue how anyone drives with long tubes and no cats or mufflers, WAY WAY to damn loud and annoying!

I might decided to try the cat less setup someday. How much is it to get the midpipes for long tubes and bassani with no cats sal?

Give a hoot don't polute :)

For the minimal performance difference, cats are a really nice thing to do for the environment if its a daily driver...

Blown93- I haven't seen any before and after dyno numbers from cats to no cats. The only numbers I have seen so far is from switiching from stock cats to high flow ones which seems to bring quite an improvement in rwhp and torque.

You can order the high-flow Magnaflow converters from Exhaust Pros 1-888-413-7767.

Part #94006 Unpolished $65.00 Each

Part# 94306 Polished $99.00 Each

These are the same converters JDM use's on his full exhaust system. I have not checked with Jim on the price of these converters as he might be cheaper on them since he purchases them in bulk. I will call him Monday and check on the price.
