Waiting on the 05L, buying a Infiniti G35 Coupe...
I heard that although the 350Z and G35 coupe share the same platform, the dimensions and handling are quite different. I think it was motortrend or something a while ago that said the G35 was the "Bigger Brother" to the 350Z. I guess the trade-off of going with the G35 would be that it's a bit slower due to being heavier; but I'll bet it makes up for that in the Infinity trimmings

The Infinity is a little heavier and 7 hp less than the Z. But It adds a back seat that is somewhat comfortable and luxury intereior. I can deal with a little slower for the comfort and trimmings inside, I got the L for the 350Z's.
Motor Trend said the Infiniti handled better than the Z.

Hi DL,
Infiniti has a program called the Vehicle Purchase Program (VPP) that is similar to the x-plan. The price is calculated something like 95.7% of the invoice price + 2.5% which gets you right under invoice plus any applicable rebates. Your employer has to be a nissan partner. However, the 350z and g35 coupe are not available on the plan as of right now.
You can login to the the vpp website by going to www.insidenissan.com and using "vendor" as the userid and password.
My company is a nissan partner but I don't think I have a way of working a deal.

f150intally,
Thanks for the info. and appreciate you trying to help.
I called several dealerships near and far from where I live, they all said MSRP, they wouldn't budge and some where over MSRP. Especially since I had to order the car I wanted.
I smooth talked my local Infiniti dealer saying I found a dealer that would give me $500.00 off MSRP, and he gave me $750.00 to get my business.
He said he would make an exception this time because I bought my L from a Sales manager he knew at my local Ford dealer. So I got lucky..
Grey03,
Thanks, I was going to get the Laser Red. I saw one and it is SHARP, but I decided to choose a litte lower profile for the cops this time. I got Diamond Graphite/Graphite(Charcoal) leather. The Diamond Graphite color has a lot of metal flake in it. Bling! Bling!
The red L is a Cop Magnet, LOL. When I'm driving it, my V1 goes off all the time with instant on, laser, etc.
Laser Red and Diamond Graphite are only available on the Coupe.
Your on for a race. I heard if I get a true dual exhaust , I'll pick up 37 hp. Lookout 350Z's, I'll be taking names..

It's not all in the name, you do get some different features inside and outside between the makes. It's all about what you want to spend.
DL, good choice. The 350Z is a little impractical, while the G35 adds creature comforts and luxury to the package. This will pay real dividends in a daily driver. Besides... the Z's overstyled looks are already looking a little tired (too many in my area) while the G35's more conservative (but still sporty) design should remain a classy gem for a long time.
I wouldn't bother getting a 3-series BMW either... the G35 coupe is a much better value, and you'll probably be more satisfied than the thousands of E46 BMW lemmings running around already.

Also while you say it's only down 7 HP, there are a few other differences, for one over .5 in the 1/4 mile. They may be rated close to the same, but the Z is far superior in every category except foofoo trimming and a much better dealer experience(Nissan dealers are still used to working with Altimas and their owners)

lmao...love the photochop
And about the practicallity of a Z......this just sounds funny from an L owner, the L is probably one of the most impractical vehicles on the road today....but I sure love em

red00Lightning, glad you liked my fun little exercise.
Now back on topic... I think it's funny you see the L as "impractical." I totally disagree, but I come from small sports cars and sports sedans. Now that I have a truck, I can't believe I lived without one before. And I don't think I'll ever be without one... this truck has been WAY more practical (for me) than any of my previous vehicles. But I am single with no kids or family to haul around. Your mileage may vary. Of course, the L is not a Super Crew or dually, but I find a "practical" use for the bed every weekend it seems.
As for the Z vs G35, I believe the current issue of Car and Driver features a road test of the G35 and it did in fact post a higher skidpad rating than the 350Z. See here for their review:
http://www.caranddriver.com/xp/Caran...adtest_g35.xml
"But whether because of the meatier 18-inch rubber that is standard on the six-speed coupe or a relocated center of gravity (or both), the G35 coupe remains unflappably stable and neutrally balanced. Indeed, the coupe turned in a scorching 0.90-g run on the skidpad, the highest number by 0.02 g we have recorded for the entire G35/Z family. "
That may not translate into quicker autocross times, but "better handling" is subjective. The G35 even brakes better than the 350Z:
"The G35's combination of Brembo calipers and 12.8-inch front rotors needs only 157 feet to convert 70 mph of kinetic energy into heat, seven fewer than the 350Z Track and fewer than both of the previously cited coupe competitors. "

No fart pipes for me...
I'll put a Lightning catback on the G35..
red00Lightning,
The L impractical, I don't think so. I've been on several long trips in the L, time just flew by. It was comfortable, just want to keep the miles off of it and the gas mileage is not too good, got a heavy foot, luv to hear that S/C. That's the problem, I can't stay out of the L. I have a 97 Lexus ES300 with 28,000 miles on it and my 01 L is 1 1/2 yrs old with 19,000 miles on it.
I'll take the L over a HD truck anyday.
Thanks Ben,
The photo shop looks cool with the escalade front end on the new L, it matches the body style.
I think the G35 will work out. A fun car to drive.
I looked at Beemers and other cars, I thought for the money, the G35 offered more for less. Plus they are a limited production vehicle, I think 12,000 a year. I've read a lot of articles on the G35 before I bought it. They were all pretty good. Resale on Infiniti vehicles is all I'm worried about.
