Angry i've got a wierd noise

ok i hadn't had it checked on yet but it sounds kinda like a ticking coming from the driver side. sort of behind the front wheel. it's pretty loud but no bad. if its not an exhaust leak what could it be. could it be a lifter or what? my mods are in my sig if your wondering what i have done. to explain it once more its a ticking sound and it speeds of when u rev it. it just started about 2 weeks ago. i'm getting it checked tomorrow. its hard to explain exactly so sorry if u don't understand.

I would check the plugs tightness....it starts as a tick, ends as a $2k BOOM.....don't ask how I know

I changed my plugs a few daze back..the 3rd one back on the drivers side was loose...I hadn't even heard a noise yet..I pulled the coil and noticed a red rusty color on the lower half of the plug boot....the plug well was coated in a rusty red.....Looked like something I had seen on numerous plugs after running octane boosters..I now run as much as 20 % toluene and this coloration is a by-product iof combustion...The plug was not finger tight but when I put the extension in place and the ratchet on, it sorta fell over to the right without any goading from me...I would be pulling plugs were I you....the plug was coated in red...on all the threads..
I had noticed a weird effect on several starts prior to changing plugs it being the engine seemed to fire on only a couple cylinders for a split second..sorta like it wanted to die..and then it would catch and roar to life..not sure if the loose plug had anything to do with it..The plugs were factory..in a new factory long block I had installed with about 13000 miles on it when I changed to Denso IT 22's.....

it sounds like its coming from the bottom of the engine instead of the top. but i'm going to check the plugs anyway. it won't hurt to check. thanks man.

Sorry to say but it could be the dreaded plug spitting problem.
My advise is DO NOT drive it til you check each plug and make sure they are all tight. If you don't already know, we don't have enough threads in our heads and hundreds maybe more Lightnings over the past 4 years have been spitting plugs out because of it. Once it happens, the head must be replaced. If it's just lose, you might catch it now and save alot of trouble.

I hope it's not that, please let us know what you find out

Whoa! I just started hearing the exact same noise today. I pulled the truck into the garage and got 6 of the plugs out so far. None looked bad; but all required a wrench to remove, e.g. none were very loose. Maybe 7 and 8 will be the culprits.

Number 8 was LESS than hand tight! I fired the beast up and the noise seemed to be gone. I'll report any further info.

I love this board,
Edward

I have a ticking noise too but you can only hear it at 35 to 45 mph. I checked the plugs and all are good. I even took it to the dealer and they could not hear the noise. I run 93 octane and tried different gas stations nothing seems to help. My dealer is no help but they did say that if the engine blew up I'll get a free replacement. :cool The noise has been there sense I had own the truck new which it has 10,000 miles on it today.
