Question Weird......"Shhhhhhhssssssss" sound..{UPDATE}

Noticing a problem lately. Whenever im sitting at a light, or just have the truck in park, at idle.. I hear this weird noise. maybe every 5seconds.. Sounds like the belt squeaking, but when i pop the hood to look, i cant pin point the noise.

No noise while driving at any speed... Maybe its got to be the SC belt?

The s/c belt can be removed with a 1/2" breaker-bar. Just take it off of the upper and lower pulley and you should be able to start it up and listen to it without the belt being completely removed.

I hope you're not hearing a 'loose plug'.

Dan.. without laughing at me.. Is there a tensioner I have to move with this 1/2" breaker-bar? I have the tools, just dont know where to loosen.

Maybe if i was outside with it in front of me, it would be clear.
I should be looking for a tensioner right?

thanks buddy

there is a tensioner you can move with a 1/2 in breaker bar or ratchet. Cant miss it, it's aluminum and it's on the upper end of the belt(passenger side)....JR

Krix, do you hear this noise without the defroster on? Just curious, as it could be the A/C compressor kicking on that you hear.

I thought the same when it was happening. I shut everything off, even turned the AC on to hear. It makes the noise with everything off still.

Could be a vacuum leak. Do you have a throttle body on it? I had a similar sound that happened only when the vacuum was at 0 and the S/C wasn't making boost yet. Real noticable at a light. I changed the throttle body gasket and it fixed it. Also check the vacuum lines under the air intake tube near the throttle body.

If you never had the throttle body or intake tube off then it probably isn't that.

Went to pull belt just few minutes ago..

Truck running, hood open, you can't hear the noise..

Truck in Reverse or Drive, and you can hear it.. getting louder by the day.

So when its in Park or Netural, the noise isn't there... Didnt pull belt yet, as i had to come in to start dinner..

IDEAS AGAIN??

Its always so hard to describe "sounds" online isn't it??
Anyway does it sound like a metal sound? like maybe the exhaust?
My truck did/does that in drive or reverse sitting still.

Just a thought, good luck finding/fixing it
