Paypal sucks...I want my goodies!

I ordered a bedrug last weekend from www.chikenearsengineering.com

PLEASE LET ME MAKE IT 100% CLEAR that I am in no way unhappy with my dealings with Tim and this company. I have talked with Tim on the phone and via e-mail about the order probably ten times. Honestly I didn't shop around, but I feel like the $299 price for the rug would be hard to beat. I know I paid more for the last one I bought back in '01. He even sent me an update on my order with a Happy New Year greeting! They have the bedrug in stock and ready to ship. No problems whatsoever on that end. Based on my dealings so far, I WOULD HIGHLY RECCOMEND THEM to anybody! They are great, thanks tim!

However, I have only used paypal once before to sell something so i'm not an expert at how it works or anything. Anyway, I already had the account setup to work with my bank account. so instead of using a credit card, I just told them to withdraw the money from my account. Fine, this was saturday so with the weekend all the transaction took place on Monday morning.

Well, here it is Wednesday (holiday I know) and PAYPAL still hasn't "VERIFIED" the transaction and put the money in chikenears' account. They claim it takes 4 days to "verify". WHAT IS TO VERIFY??? THE MONEY IS GONE FROM MY BANK ACCOUNT! Paypal has it! are they just sitting on it to collect interest? is this how they make money? I don't get it.

I know this isn't the end of the world, but I know some of you guys get impatient too waiting on new toys to arrive. It just pisses me off because I'm waiting for no reason. an electronic funds transaction takes seconds, they certainly didn't have to verify chit to take them money out of my account, they didn't waste any time getting it from me, but now they are taking their sweet time passing it on to chikenears.

anyway, I'll turn the vent off now.

thanks for listening.

Patience is a Virtue

later,
chris

To avoid ripoffs PayPal is **** about verifying bank accounts and physical addresses so they know who the heck you are..

If you log back into PayPal you can likely jump through a hoop or 2 to prevent this delay in the future.... Once you give them a DNA sample and your complete credit history they are easy to deal with ...

You have to keep in mind that Paypal makes most of their profit by investing the money that you send through them. They are not a credited financial institution, so they can do just about anything they want. When you sent that $299, they claim it takes time for the money to process. In reality, it only takes a matter of minutes for the money to transfer. However, they can claim it takes 4-7 days. During that time period, they are investing and manipulating that money through their own accounts to make themselves some money. If you figure that thousands of people are sending money at the same time, then they have millions of dollars to play with at all times.

It is a simple idea that works great. However, it is at your expense. Hopefully now that Ebay had purchased them, some regulation and struture will come from it.

Just hang in their, for they always tell your that the money was sent even if it does not transfer for several days later.

It's not really a "Problem", I'm just impatient. In paypal's defense, they haven't done anything really wrong or differently than they said they would, it's just that they are taking 4 days to do something that takes seconds for the sole reason of making a profit. but hey, this is america, thats what it's all about. they need to make money to keep their business profitable.

I'm just impatient

Paypal has always worked pretty good for me. The one thing that is always a concern is that there really isn't much protection for the buyer. It's only a quick way of transfering money (well fairly quick). Even though you did the transaction over the weekend, banks only operate Monday through Friday, so it's only been two days. Hang in there, as I'm sure it will get processed. Next time you might want to use a credit card for the transaction, as it will be much quicker and you will have the protection of the credit card company if something was to go wrong. It's still going to be a lot quicker than getting a money order and then having to mail it to Chickenears.

PayPal is a freakin rip off. When I registered eons ago, you could send and receive payments at no fee with no limit. Then they added a limit on everything and then a fee based system for receiving payments. The problem? When I registered, the slogan was "ALWAYS SECURE, ALWAYS FREE." So much for always free!

Or the next time, do a wire transfer. It takes all off 10 secs.
That is, if Tim wants to do business that way.
I use it to wire money to my bank account when working out off town

PW1981,

Paypal is free for buyers to send money by either a credit card or to transfer funds from a paypal account or a checking account. The fees only come into play for sellers receiving funds at the premier or merchant level, and the fees are typical of the same fees a merchant would pay to a bank for accepting credit card transactions. Paypal is a great way to make transactions as long as you are dealing with a reputable seller. The important thing is to get as much information about a seller you can.

Yep....same here. That's why I like to use ww.c2it.com, it's owned by Citibank and they don't charge the absorbent 2.9% that Paypal does. As a buyer I don't mind using Paypal, but as a seller I always opt for c2it whenever possible.

Hang in there Chris, this will be settled tomorrow. We've learned one thing, pay with a credit card and it's quicker (too late for us this time). I'm sorry for the delay but it's out of my hands at the moment. One thing is certain, as soon as the check clears the Bedrug will be in a truck and on it's way to you.

Thanks for your patience,

Tim

Navi Man,

You are 100% correct. My point, however, is that when PayPal started up, and at the time I joined, they advertised "Always Free" as a selling point of the credit card payment service. The slogan applied to both sending and receiving. Indeed it remained free for about a year. Then that slogan disappeared and fees appeared. It was false advertising. As a buyer, I don't care, but I refuse to "upgrade" my account and rack up fees on stuff that was supposed to be free when I signed up.

Chris,

There is a answer!! I use to do the same thing with paypal and hated it. I found new way to send money through them. Next time you log in check to see if you have a instant transfer option or echeck. I can now send money directly to any paypal from my bank account INSTANTLY. No more waiting for it to be deposited into your paypal then sending, I go from bank account to thier paypal....

So i faxed a bunch of still including: billing statement for 2 bank accounts, copy of drivers license, utility bill, tracking information, contact information and a bunch of other crap and they still won't realease the money. WHAT A PAIN!!!!!

I used PayPal for 2 years until they assisted a scam artist in stealing my money. PayPal is an organization of thieves and crooks and I will never use there corrupt services again. Believe me, everythings fine until theres a problem and then good luck getting any help from them. PayPal has a lot of problems and pending class action lawsuits against them. When I look back, I was just plain silly trusting my money to a cyber-pretend bank. For those of you who insist on using PayPal here are a few tips to keep from getting screwed by them.

1. Never, never, I mean never pay for anything using the balance in your PayPal account. (did I mention never?) Always use a credit card. Your credit card company will protect you if your item is never shipped. If you use your PayPal balance you have absolutely "NO" protection whatsoever if the seller doesn't ship the item. This is where I got screwed.

2. Always, always, I mean always empty your PayPal account every time money is deposited into it. I have read many horror stories about PayPal accounts being hacked and or frozen by PayPal for no reason. PayPal is not a bank and are not FDIC insured.

3. Never, never, never ship an item to a buyer's "unconfirmed" address. If that buyer files a complaint with PayPal for nonshipment you will lose the money they sent you and the item you sent them. It doesn't matter if you have a tracking number, It doesn't matter if you've got emails from the buyer stating that they received the item and loved it. You can even have a taped phone conversation where the buyer admits to receiving the item. They will still give the buyer his/her money back and let them keep the item. ALWAYS ship to a "confirmed" address. This is the gods honest truth.

If you follow these 3 simple rules you shouldn't have any problems with PayPal. I use the word "shouldn't" very loosly though. I have included a few links to show you how very sincere I am about how PayPal treats it customers if you'd like to do some research. Sorry for such a long post but I like to inform my friends about this company so they don't get screwed like I did.
