Final word on pulleys without chip?
There's some post over at NLOC that are extremly interesting about this matter. Some are running NOS, some major boost, none with a chip ??? I truly wonder myself sometimes if the factory set up can handle and adjust just as good or better.
Don't get me wrong I have two chips and 4 differant programs and believe in them. I'd be lost with the factory rev limiter, having torque reduction back, and crapy shift points with mushy shifts.
NOT TO MENTION THE HP ADDER WHICH IS THE TIMING.
But one still cant help but wonder ???

Rob I have read those also and It does make you wonder... Still I'm chiped and I would rather be safe like you.... At least I hope I'm safe...........

I think the opposite is true--run the pig-rich stock program for safety (at the expense of a few ponies).Has anyone ever reported detonation or detonation-related engine failure running a larger pulley and the stock chip? In the NLOC thread, no one did, yet many, many people have experienced detonation with a chip, irrespective of boost levels.
Ford has to warranty these things for 36,000 miles. A tuner does not have to warranty them for a day.

Do you have any timeslips to back up that statement?? No tuner bashing here, but maybe you did not have a good program to accomodate all of the mods that you have...just my .02

i mean i dont get anything pinging anymore.
my chip was tuned for 89 octane and i'd always put in 92 and still get pinging. thats what i mean by running better
There isn't one....
The truck comes from the factory with computer programming that is a compromise of economy, safety, performance & reliability. EVERY modification you make that affects the delivery of power is cutting into the saftey net of the factory programming. Some more than others. And, the golden rule applies - just because Joe sixpack did it on his truck, doesn't mean your truck won't blow up after one day - they're all different... Basically, the trucks don't 'adapt' per se, it's that they're set up to run rich to begin with, and don't have the timing set for maximum performance in optimal weather conditions. That's because chances are, you will drive the truck in non optimal conditions (remember, it's fast but it IS a truck...) If you get crazy with boost, you will likely have to change plugs, but up to about 4 extra # of boost, the stock programming should be ok - should being the operative word... some accurate A/F ratios would be needed to tell for sure.
If you do a search on 'burnt plugs' or the like, almost all of the burnt plug victims were running a chip. Vendor (if listed) didn't seem to matter, and boost ran the entire spectrum. I'm not saying chips are bad, or that they don't work, only that they sacrifice reliability for power.

sorry dude....Did you run the truck with and without the chip with the same mods???If so, what was the e.t. and mph difference???

JJ's is going to do some testing w/ and w/o chips when the tracks open up again.
