Used Lightning...warranty information?

I'm looking at purchasing a used Lightning that's still under the 36k mile warranty.

It's a 2000, so the 3 year part of the warranty is coming up. The buyer says the warrant expires in July.

Is there anyway to confirm this? I don't want to take his word, buy the truck, and then find out there's no warranty.

If the warranty is in place, I also plan on going with the Ford special care ESP. How much should I expect to pay? What'sa good price for the warranty?

I called the local dealership and whoever answered the phone was more confused than I was.

Conversation basicly went something like this:

Me: Is there anyway to figure out when the warranty on a truck I'm looking at expires?
Them: Did you buy the truck here? Who was your salesmen? Let me transfer you *VOICEMAIL*

Anyone else?

You could check and see,

if the delivery date is recorded with the warranty information in the owner's manual packet. It is with mine. Add '3' to the year of delivery to see when the warranty expires.

or ask the owner to see a service department receipt from a Ford dealer that has serviced the vehicle. Delivery date should be on this as well.

You could ask to see the original bill of sale as well.

If you want, e-mail me with the VIN on the truck, and I'll check it for you. E-mail is powersurgeperf@aol.com

The 3-year warrenty starts the day it was ORIGINALLY bought. Meaning if it was bought July 2, 2000 you have until July 2, 2003. The owner is probably right....

I recently purchased a used 2000 myself. I went to my local dealer with the VIN number and had them pull an OASIS report on the truck. This will tell you information about recalls and wheather they have been done to the vehicle or not. I dont remember if this shows any service thru ford or not. If you are buying from an individual, they can tell you where the service has been done and the shop can pull records for you. The warranty is based on date in service. That is the magical date. If you want the factory extended warranty, there is a guy online that will sell it for wholesale pricing. Someone else can probably chime in as to what his web site address is. If not, post the question here and on nloc.net. that is where i found out about it. You have to get it before the 3/36 expires. I would highly reccomend it. If i remember correctly you can get the 6/100k for around 1400.00. Ford will try to nail you for around 2500 for the same product.

I paid $2000 for my 3 year service plan, when i bought my 99-L, with 24000 miles , from the dealer.

Had it 4 months now, and not one single problem with the truck!

I was thinking of cashing the service plan in, and doing mods.

But the truck runs so well, i'm afraid mods will mess it up...
