Nittos or et streets?
Nittos or et streets?
I am looking ahead to the spring and IF for some reason i dont run a high 12, and i may need a good set of tires to get me down there to lose a 10th, i am debating over et streets or just a set of nittos. I currently have a 4# pulley, a diablo chip from Jl, pro m mass air meter and k and n cone filter. And my current mod was JDM's cat back exhaust. With all that and a good day in the spring i think i'll break into the 12's. IF i dont, i'm interested in either tires or a 3>73 rear end. It is a 2000. Any more advise for me to get into the 12's? Thanks, Shane
i've also got the oild breather cap, and the boost bypass. My question is, If all i want to do is run a 12 at the track, will i do it with my set up, or do i NEED tires and a gear? From there mabey i'll get it down to a mid 12 and be happy, but for now i want to run A 12. thats it, and i want to know with my set up, should i break 12's or invest in more? The track is closed for the year, but i want to know how i Should do. thanks, Shane

Low 12's ?
Yo dude, slow down a bit. The faster you go, the harder it is to go faster. We're driving barn doors down the strip, not very aerodynamic. You'll see that the next time you race after installing a mod, you might not get quite as much ET reduction as you thought you would. Just be patient, and you'll get your number, later, John H.
thats what i need to do is relax and wait the winter out, and dont go buying stuff just to be safe. I think on a good day with a 60 foot time of 1.75 or so i can hit a 12. From there if i want more, theres so much i can do, tires, rear end, electic fans, nitrous. Thanks for the input i really apreciate it. Shane
get the gears first. then i would personally get the nitto DRs and a set of traction bars. then in the future if you find yourself at the track more and more get the ET streets. i wouldn't buy ET streets just so i can get a 12 second ET...
also dont forget to get a D/S loop if you do happen to get ET streets and i would even recommend it for the DRs. better safe than sorry.
good luck.

Shane, you already have a 12! You just haven't run it yet.
I have a 2# Lower, E-Fan & Pump, with JDM's Stage One .
Best time on the F-1's was 12.57@108.21.
Remember, before you run the slicks or drag radials, you will have to install traction bars and a drive shaft loop(hidden costs).
Like Johnny said, be patient and see what you have first. Make a couple of runs on a couple different days and I think as you get used to your set up you should be able to run 12's all day.
Oh by the way, with slicks, traction bars, stock converter, and 3.55 gears my 2000 has a best of 12.48@109.5. Once you run your 4#er you will see 12's for sure.
Be cool,
Fred.

Hey Fred, don't forget to list that SPECIAL 2# pulley that I let you steal from me, UGH, you know, the one that has dubbed you MR MPH, 109.5 . I want it BACK !!!!!!!!!!!!! John H.
Go for the Nittos
That way all you have to do is drive to the track let some tire pressure out and WAY YOU GO !! Dont have to mess with changeing tires all the time. I pull 1.80-1.85 all day long on my Nittos

you should already be running 12's with what you have. my truck went at least 12.80s with just a 4lber and a chip and a drop in filter. what do your 60fts look like? I bet you'll find your problem there. I suspect that you just need to practice your launching, not buy new tires. unless ofcourse your track's prep is no good, even then you still need to optimize your launch.
good luck.

good luck.

i apreciate everyone's reply. I agree i just have to wait and see come springtime how i do. With a 1.8 or 1.9 60 foot time, i think with the boost i have i can get well into the 12's. It's just 60 foot time is key. I'll see what i can do on stock tires with my set up, and go from there. Just leave the rpm's at idle? and drive into the launch? any more advise on getting the 60 foot times down, i'd apreciate it. thanks, Shane
