toneau cover with bars or without?

how many of you guys run those 2 bars (ribs) daily? is it a problem to not use them on the highway/high speed? does it "flutter" more?

Mine are always on... Never really thought to take them off!

I would think that it would flutter at highway speeds without them, though. They take up alot of slack.

I always have mine in. I've seen pics without and it looks good but I think mine would be too "loose" without them.

I busted the spring in one one time and had to drive 45 mins to Edmonton to get a new one at the dealer (normally a 1 1/2 drive in a normal vehicle) and those Tonneau Covers whip like a co*k sucker without those bars.

Are you sure it was a stock cover on the other guys truck ?

I have an access cover (smooth finish with no visible rails) but thats an aftermarket part.

I would bet that with no rails at all you will tear it up pretty fast.

I tried driving around with no bars... its a no no. It was flapping uncontrollably. Almost felt like it was gonna just rip right off the bed.

yea a spring popped out in mine too! the rivet actually popped out so now there is nothing to really hold it in. right now i just have a similar sized rivet pounded in but one of these days i'll get it done right. it's not a big deal since i hardly ever take the bars off and when on the spring is held in pretty tight....
