info needed from 03 owners
when you get the trucks, take a peek at the computer, to see if we can still "chip it", also look at the rear shackles, to see whats going on with the rear height
thanks
thanks
the pcm wont change to ubp untill 04 for the f series
Thats not true.I know for fact.....IVE seen one first hand on a 2001 f150 with NO place for a chip.I mean the case has no hole in it.The board is still the same but you need to cut it to put a chip in.
As a matter of fact,If ford has such a problem with chips,They should just do that on all lightnings.

There is rumor they 03s have the black oak EEC in them (think thats the name) which ahs no service port.
Rear shackles can be replaced with a 99-02 part. The biggest part of the height differance is the rear springs though...
The roush suspension will also fit it and ride height will be identical to the 99-02 setup. Still have to swap bumpstops.

if a new mounting box for the chip is needed I dont see how chipping it would be a problem at all. As a matter of fact, I'd imagine the computer end around our trucks or any car for that matter will always have a loophole of some sorts. Anyways, if there is no way to chip an 03 at all,,,, that would only bring up the net worth of our used 99-02 L's for people who wish to bolt on and race from the get go.

"black oak" is another name for the new ubp protocol processors. It was new for 2002 in explorers, lincoln LS, and for 2003 in expedition. It wont hit F series until 2004 just like i said at the beginning of this thread.

Hello jefflaws,
I don't know what the new black oak box is all about. I am hoping I don't have to worry about on my truck. Did you see the post I made above. Mine has a port and a code.
Can ya shed some light on this for me?
Thanks,
Rocks
The technical "Ford" term for the new proccessor is the P-TEC. Just like there was EEC-4 and we have EEC-5, the new PCMs are called P-TECs. You will know when you have one, they look NOTHING like our current EEC-5s. They have a triangular shaped case, and have 3 seperate harness plugs going into them. Like Jefflaws said, they are used in the Lincoln LS, 02-up Explorer, 03-up Expy, and the new Thunderbird. They are also used in the Jaguar that shares the LS platform (I forget the model). There is no external service port. But don't be worried that you won't be able to "chip" them. Even though you can't plug in an external chip, you can reflash them through the OBDII DCL plug. Manufacturers are already busy working on programmers for the PTEC. By the time the new Lightning comes out with that PCM, there should be no problems with upgrading it.
thought of something else. i remember reading here, that the 03 wheels were extremely light. if one of you has a reason to remove the wheel, could you weigh it (tire included) of course
