New Computer...

If I order a new chip from ford doesn't come preprogrammed? I think as long as I do this I should be completely safe. I'm ordering the chip from a different dealer than I am taking the truck to, can they track that? Thanks for all the help and attention you guys have given to my problem, it's not going unnapreciated to say the least.

Why don't you have a friend order the computer for you? The computer (from my understanding) must be programmed for the pats system.

Yeah, that is a great idea. I'll have my buddy order it for me. Then there will be no way to trace it. Thanks again.

Remember after you do all of this there are no guarantees, but if I was you I would try it. Remember to remove all of your mods. When I took my truck back to stock I even recreated the oil which covered the underside of the truck and had it towed to the side of the freeway where it blew.

All of the computers are reconditioned, so even if
you get it from FORD there is a chance that the
coating will already be missing. That's what happened
to Brandon when he wanted a "replacement" one
for his truck. The one that he got had already been "chipped"

I would refuse delivery if it didn't have the coating.

C'mon,

Guys, think about it, if you haven't already put a chip in your truck, just take your computer out(with the coating on) Put the chip in the new one.(with the coating missing)

C'mon, think about it. His computer already had a chip in it. What good would it do to get another computer which is in the same basic condition as his?

Yeah, I agree. I won't take delivery of a reconditioned one. The guy told me a completely new one could be had for $450. And Crockett59- sorry but I am having trouble understanding what you are trying to say, no flame, just help me to understand better. Thanks.

The new PCM will have to have PATS programmed into it. This can only be done at a dealer. Regardless of what dealer does it there will be an audit trail in the system of the work performed on your truck.

I don't mean this as harshly as it sounds, but why don't you just nut-up and pay for your own mistake?

Ford owes you nothing and the bad karma you're going to earn with this big lie will come home to roost some day.

Happy Motoring

I'm not going to comment on what you should or shouldn't do about your situation, but I will offer some info about it...

First, you will not get a "new" PCM if you order one. They are all reman, which is why they have a core charge. There's nothing wrong with that, Ford uses the same "box" for many vehicles, they just load the proper calibration onto it. I've ordered well over 100 PCMs from Ford over the years, and never got one missing the coating, but I do know that Brandon did in fact get one missing it. BTW, I can get you a PCM way cheaper than that if you want one.

You also cannot just buy a new PCM and throw it in your truck. Every time you change the PCM, it must be configured to the truck, and that can only be done using a Ford scan tool. So unless you have a buddy that can do it on the side, that's not going to help.
