Biggest POS ever
Biggest POS ever
Last night I picked my truck up from the dealership for the 3rd time in 3 weeks after getting the SES light again. Turns out this time a coil pack went bad. Before that the valve cover gaskets were leaking oil bad, and before that I launched a spark plug. Well today, less than 24hrs after picking the truck up from the shop, the SES light came back on.
I am thinking I just want to sell it. I was considering buying an '03 L, but not if I am going to continue fight these same problems after putting some miles on it.
I used to drive a 30 year old GTO daily and it never had this many problems as my 2000 is having with 27,000 miles.
I can't wait for the new GTO to come out, I think I need to retreat back to my Pontiac roots ......
Is there anyone else here that has had this many problems, or do just I have really ****ty luck?

anyway, it sounds like you have a dealership problem, not so much a truck problem. It's pretty unlikely that your trucks check engine light came back on for a NEW reason after 24 hours.
It's much more likely that whoever worked on it just didn't fix it or cleared the code and hoped it didn't come back on. Unfortunately you have to take it back. This time cause a little fuss and demand to speak to the service manager and tell them you want somebody who knows what they are doing to look at your truck.
Go Pontiac "driving excitement" if you like, but IMHO they are real junk.
good luck.

I agree mechanically they have nothing in common really, but my point was that I would expect a 30,000 dollar truck with only 27k miles on it to at least last me a few years, at this rate I dont know that it is going to. The GTO has lasted 30 years and was still running when I sold it. Shouldnt technology be progressive? If not then I want carburetors and pushrod motors back.

[B]well frankly a 30yr old GTO and your truck have jack****t in common. The L is ever so slightly more complicated.
That's a large part of the problem.

"$30K isn't all that much for a new truck/suv now-a-days."
I would say that $30K is a lot for a truck that leaks oil and spits out spark plugs. Not to mention that you can almost never get it fixed right the first time.

Well, an abacus is a lot more trouble free than a computer, but which do you want to do your math on?
New vehicles have more problems because there is more to go wrong with them. That's the price you pay for the technology needed to have a 5000lb truck that runs 13s and has good heat, cold A/C, no road noise, power seats, airbags and ABS for safety, no cap/rotor/wires/points to change, etc, etc.
I agree with Chris that your current dealer doesn't sound to good and maybe you should find a better service dept to deal with.
