It's true...No Lightning for 2006

I heard the rumors and called SVT (800-367-3788) this afternoon.
The official word is that the next generation SVT Lightning program has been put on hold. The new Cobra will be released in mid 2006 as a 2007 model while the new Lightning will not appear until 2007, at the absolute earliest. All R&D is being concentrated on the Cobra at this time. It's not a huge surprise since they waited four years between the Gen 1 and Gen 2 trucks.

I figure this makes our trucks more valuable but it might inspire me to add an SRT-10 Quad Cab to the fleet!

I was hoping to be 1st in line for the new L, but now I don't know if I can buy ford again. they really just pissed me off.

when Chevy killed the camaro, I lost my Chevy heart. I sold my camaro and bought the L with hopes that I will be outa college in a good job (engineering) and hopefully next in line to get the '06 L, but now I just don't know. this sucks ford. alot. thanks. bleh....If this cobra doesn't *own* all, I'll look for a new vette...they haven't been disappointing in the past few years.

Well, if this is true then Ford probably just lost my business. I am pondering getting a C6 Vette next summer, but I was gonna wait until the specs on the new Lightning came out before I made my decision. If it was gonna be out in late 2005 or 2006 and 450-500 HP, then I would probably get it. There might just be a Vette in the garage.

I called SVT also....No release date on the new Cobra but they did confirm that in 2006 there will be an SVT Mustang....The Lightning has just been postponed...

Kinda frustrating, my 01 L is getting up in miles and I rely on it as a daily driver and tow my boat and quad on weekends...I don't want to give in to Dodge or Chevy...and really don't want a regular 150 so like many of us who were waiting...we will have to make other choices.

I am all for the new Cobra but it isn't practical for me and I'm sure if it was, it will carry a 70 K pricetag.....

I'm frustrated because Ford isn't keeping to the timeline on the "L", which many of us were counting on... Ford should remain loyal to it's loyal customers....

Just my opinion.....Please don't smoke me too bad when I get an SSR...

they are keeping with the 4 year wait between Gen's. 95 to 99, 04 to possibly 08.

what doesn't make sense with the 4 year theory is that the current "new" f150 will be old by then and probably 2 years away from redesign.....

I agree also....the F-150 platform has been out for a while. The Mustang platform is new this year however they will have a Mustang SVT for 06. How much more development could the Lightning require to get it ready for production?
I guess the Dodge will reign longer than we expected....

Sadly my 01 will be at 100k next year and I will be purchasing an SSR or SRT-10....

That's a real bummer , i traded my "01" in on an "04" Acura MDX. I thought i'd keep it for a couple years and trade it in on an "06"L. Looks like i may go with the new SSR 390 hp 405 tq.

I drove an SSR yesterday...they are willing to deal on them because they arn't selling well.

It's very small, the trunk space is smaller than I expected also.

I drove the new one (390 hp)...not bad but I'm guessing the SSR is a porker because it didn't get up and go like the "L"....

I guess my choice will be the SRT...

Thanks again Ford. I hope the Cobra customers make up for what you will lose in "L" customers...

sucks for those people (not me!) who signed up for that powerlease to get a new L when the lease is up. I wonder how they are going to handle that.
