Automatic Console Light w/ Pics
Automatic Console Light w/ Pics
Along with a lot of help from Daveman, I installed an automatic center console light.
I always found that, during low light situations, it was tough to see the bottom of the console and find what you were searching for... I've solved this problem.
The light kicks on when the lid is opened and, of course, off, when the console closes. The switch is mounted at the strike point for the rubber anti-vibration piece for the lid itself.
Here are some pics...

I realize it doesn't put out an extremely strong light but, that isn't what I wanted. I just wanted something to shed some light on the interior of the cavernous center console.
The switch is a Radio Shack 275-1548 normally closed momentary switch. The light is a Blazer brand C460 Interior Light that I picked up at AutoZone.
What do you all think? Usefull mod?

ps. Thanks again Dave. I appreciate the electrical insight and help.

Well, I removed and sold my CD-changer when I upgraded head units thus, I still had the harness located inside the console. I spliced off of the power/ground in that harness.
The power wire is the Light Green/Violet Stripe wire and the ground is the Black/LightGreen Stripe wire.
Pretty simple... very effective... Dave coached me through a lot of it...

RP - I am a little disapointed in you...
I would have thought that you would have put in one of those big blue neon bulbs like the fast and furious guys have to light up their melons and look like a spaceship rollin down the road!
LOL
Great looking mod and functional to boot. That's the best kind!

Hey Rock,
Good job dude, I'm proud of you and I knew you could do it man. Now we need to move on to the three wire circuit
I'm probably going to do this mod too, you've paved the way for others, thanks.
The console light project warrants a Word document with pics and specs, sounds like a candidate for a PDF to me, hehe

Well, you see, the great thing is that I DO KNOW.
I took my digital camera, turned the flash off, put it on timer mode, tossed it in the console and had it take a pic.
I've got the bases covered man! You doubt me? OTT? NO WAY! LOL!!
