Clarion Sub in KR - RockPick? Dufunnel?
Mike,
I'm still waiting on my paint as well; however, I did go ahead and install it. I don't have the guts to drill into the tranny hump thus, I'm sticking with the ties (and I believe dufunnel is as well).
As far as painting is concerned, I plan on masking off all of the areas that I don't want painted. Plus, I plan on removing the little 'felt' piece that is in the 'holder area'. I'm pretty sure that, by using a hair dryer, I can heat that adhesive up to the point that it's basically very easy to remove. If there is any leftover adhesive, I'll remove that with hot water and a little soap (I don't want to use a petroleum or other chemical based liquid as I might not get it all off and the paint certainly won't stick to it). Once I've put a few coats of paint on it, I'll re-glue the felt back in and be GOOD TO GO.
dufunnel, any tips or recommendations since you've already completed this?

hehehe Viper, it'd be a neat trick.
Mike- I'm not sure about prep. I hope dufunnel can fill us in a little on that. I've never painted an interior piece either. I doubt I'll go with a clearcoat on it though. I mean, the dash isn't that shiny. I don't think it has a clearcoat on it... does it?

Hey guys...
Not a supercrew owner here (someday I will own one
) but fyi I have installed many 2-way radio brackets ( I install two way radios as part of my line of work) into the tranny hump of F150's. There is at least 3" of dead space between the carpet and top of the tranny so drilling holes is no problem. But, I don't blame you if you don't want to drill holes in a $35K vehicle...I don't like doing it to new vehicles that are not even mine!

Well, many fire, police, and rescue personel would disagree that 2-ways are crucial! Yes on the Motorolas, we loose money when we accept anything esle in for repair. We have been an authorized Motorola Two-way Sales and Service radio shop for over 40 years (granfather started the biz).
One question, what did you do while with Motorola?? I have degree in electronics and would continue for 2 more years to get my engineering degree if I could get into the design/engineering division of Motorola....I would love to work for them for a while.
Nope, no lobstah hauling...just hauling ***, my sled, and my girl around. Definately spend alot of time with "other interests besides the truck"!
Gotta love it, she wants me to lift the truck so I am going to next month. I think she has bought more things for the truck than I have!!! Thanks for the compliments!

Yeah I caught the joke on the two ways...and I understand about the industry thing. We have noticed an increase in business since 9/11 which is one of the few positive outcomes from that event.
Deer Isle is "Down East", about an hour and a half north east of myself. Winslow is located across the river from the city of Waterville. We are about a half hour norht from the Capital City of Augusta and an hour south of Bangor.
Funny thing is, I think I am the only person registered on this site from Maine

No clearcoat necessary for the subwoofer. The interior paint is flat and matches the finish very well. I still haven't gotten my pictures developed yet, and will not for a couple weeks. I am on my way out the door to go to Roanoke VA for this week, so I will not be around until next week. I went with the zip ties as well and they are holding great. I had a concern that the sub would tip as I rounded a corner going 50, but nothing thus far. The little rug in the sub just peeled out. I didn't have to use a hair dryer or anything. I just peeled it out slowly and was able to just put it back when I was through. No new adhesive either. I basically took the little grille off the bottom of the sub and didn't have to mask anything off because of that. No overspray on the speaker either.
Good luck and I will be back around next week sometime.

Guys,
I think I might be doing the sub woofer mod one day soon. I'll keep reading and watching to see what you guys have to say and do for a little bit longer. I love good music and if a sub in your truck is half as good as the sub attached to my home entertainment system, then I'll be happier than RockPick in KK when they're giving away free donuts

mhussey,
I have to agree on the usefulness of the two way radios, vital equipment for sure. Sharp looking truck there dude, girl friend is real cute as well. Hope you take as good care of her as you seem to do with that truck 'cause if you do I think you'll be set from my perspective
...Mike, good call on the other interest and the gallery or I would have missed out...
Man, young men of today seem to have it so much better than what I recall in my twenties. I did have a brand new car when I was eighteen and paid for it myself too. The car was a Plymouth Volare' with a Road Runner Package and it was painted bright orange with stripes, ground effects and the works all factory. I had a '72 Duster 340 drag car too as I started racing when I was around 20 if I recall correctly but that career was short lived.
Good luck and don't be shy, you don't have to own a Super Crew to hang out here. At least I won't require it...
