Angry I Hate Life!

WHat a great week I'm having. Power steering pump on monday. then lastnight I hit a deer with the truck. COuldn't see it lastnight other than the fact the brush guard took most of the damage. The grill has been knocked back I snapped it back in as best I could this morning but will have to take it apart this weekend to get the one clip I can't get to. The piece that holds the grill and goes around the headlights has a crack in it which you can't see since it's underneath. But I know it's there so that will have to be fixed eventually. The center bar on the brushguard and the left wing are damaged pretty bad and will either have to be replaced or the whole guard will have ot be scrapped.

Exactly what I was thinking - did you at least get the deer? Then it wouldn't have been totally in vain. Still hate that for your truck though.

sorry to hear that....just think of what damage your truck would have had if you didn't have the brush guard......I replaced mine when my front end was damaged....don't think I really needed to, but I figured it was weakened by the impact and if bent back into place would cause more damage to my truck the next time.....plus it gave me a good excuse for buying the Manik Stainless guard instead of the Westin one I had originally.

Wow! That does suck...

Sorry to hear of your bad luck...

What kind of Guard did you have. Just curious because you have just performed the true road test on it!

Chris (ReelWork)

RockPick, Those signs are only for the flying deer....

The guard was a locally manufactured one. So there is no brand. Just got off the phone going to cost me another $560 to get it replaced.

KR,

Sorry to hear about your damage...I'ts going to cost you $560 to get a new brush guard?

How much would it cost you if you didn't have a brush guard, probably just your deductable, right?

I'm still trying to figure out how a brush guard saves you money in a crash that your insurance company normally pays for?

Oh well, I guess I just don't understand

Hope you get all the damage repaired and get your truck back like you had it...Now just hope the deer's family doesn't find a lawyer to sue you for the wrongful death of a helpless deer...That could cost millions

Later,

~DM~

Easy there Dave. It's like I said in an earlier post, I'm sure the darn thing wasn't crossing at one of the posted DEER CROSSING signs that we always see up and down highways and interstates.

I think congress needs to pass a bill that makes it illegal for a deer to jaywalk across highways and other thoroghfares so that innocent motorists, such as KR, aren't subjected to the banter and harassment caused by hitting, one, an un-named deer. Why do we use our tax dollars to provide posted signs to allow them to cross safely!? It's the fleecing of the American taxpayers!!

I further believe that KRC has a legitimate legal case against the aformentioned deer's family for personal property damage and jaywalking. I know there are a few lawyers locally that would actually try to take that case....

Sorry about your truck KR, but it could have been much worse. Good thing is, you weren't hurt. $600.00 is a lot easier to come up with as opposed to replacing you. I've got a buddy who totaled his 96 F150 on a deer here in Michigan a couple of years ago. Every since then he goes deer hunting each year for revenge.

Dave...

While not trying to start an argument here the benefits of a grille guard are quite obvious, especially in situations just like this. KR only had minor damage to the truck from the deer and the grille guard did just what it was supposed to do and essentially paid for itself... It guarded/protected the grill and front end. Think about how much repairs would be if the truck took all the damage.. Just a quick rundown on damages without prices would look something like this:

Replace hood and bumper
Replace grille and front facia
Replace Headlights and side marker lights
Replace lower fairing/air dam (and fog lights if equipped)
Replace windshield ( this happens if happens to go up the hood - this means possible human injury by cab intrusion which is not uncommon)
Repair roof metal and pillar if it hits/damages that...

Now that is the obvious things, there is also the possibility that the radiator could have been damaged also meaining replacement to it and possibly damage to all associated parts such as the engine & tranny that may sustain heat damage or debris damage by debris entering in to the system.. I've seen it happen many times...

The thing a guard does is push things away like hitting a wall. Without one, the aerodynamics of todays trucks are very conducive to having an animal like a deer, get hit and have it's legs swept upward before hitting the grille and hood and then often times hitting the windshield. Sometimes you can hit them hard enough that they will actually fly right over the car as they flip in the air. Believe it or not, a friend of mine hit a cow , yes I did say a COW!!! He was driving a 90's model T-bird at night on a backroadand when he hit it, it did just that. He clipped its legs right out from under it and the whole cow flipped over the car. Still caused major front end damage but his wife and he are lucky to be alive becuase if that cow hit the windshield or the cab... They'd be six feet under I guarantee...

KR, What was your take on having that Grille Guard on there? I'm curious to see what you think after it did its job..

Chris (ReelWork)

Again KR, glad you're ok! God Bless...

Reel Work,

I surely don't want to argue either, but you didn't address my question. Insurance-Insurance-Insurance??? Why would we have it and have brush guards???

I've got full coverage insurance to cover any and every kind of accident that I can get into. With that said, why do I want to spend $600 so that I can get less damage than what I'd get if I didn't have it???

I'm paying enough for my insurance and I think if I'm going to save the insurance company money for accidents then they should pay for a brush guard. For that matter why doesn't every car have a brush guard and why doesn't the manufacuturers build a front end that looks like an army tank??? Just think, if I had the front of my truck to be like an army tank, I could crash into anything and there'd be no damage to my truck. However, it'd be pretty ugly and it'd cost more than my truck plus all the insurance to cover any and every kind of accident, where's the LOGIC??? I have no argument that a brush guard can protect a truck in a crash better than if it didn't have one, but where does it end...How much steel up front is going to be enough...There's almost always something that you can run into that will kill you, like a concrete wall...The G forces will kill you but the truck will look like new???
