Lightbulb Sub - In Center Console ???

I was wondering if anyone had subs inside the rear or front center console? How hard was it to install...does it sound well.

Rock - Aftermkt stereo looked great !!! Did you make the single din box (Above) yourself or get from another car etc?

Subwoofer - I can't, for the life of me, remember who has the sub in their rear console. You might do a search for King Ranch and Sub and come up with something.... I remember we talked about him making the 'sub boxes' and selling them on ebay but, I don't think anything ever became of it.

My stereo - THANKS! I absolutely love it. The little 'box' that is above my stereo is part of an install kit. You can get them to match just about any vehicle out there on the market as far as install size. Basically, it's just filling the remaining space from the factory sized stereo, since my Pioneer deck doesn't fully fill that space.

BTW, I have my factory AM/FM/CASS/CHANGER CONTROLS with 6-DISC CHANGER for sale. This is the one that came in my truck OEM. Drop me a line if you're interested.

Rock,

I think dufunnel has the sub in the rear console. I've heard of others on the super crew forum as well. Been eatin' them donuts again, tisk tisk...'causes you to lose your memory...Libido too...Oops, almost forgot you're married, forget the libido part. Oh, I almost forgot, don't forget to ask Karate what part of North Carolina he lives in, hahaha.

Karate,

How in the world did you get the King Ranch fever anyway? Sounds like you are now under the influence of the leather, welcome to the looney tunes gang. Hope you enjoy and Rock can tell you where to get your customized, personalized straight jacket to be an official member.

Later,

~DM~

My sub is located between the consoles and it works fine. I put an 8" JL Audio in a carpeted box and it matches pretty well. I toyed with the idea of having it in the rear console but that takes all the storage space.
Daveman-Where's MY jacket?

I'm wondering why Ford doesn't include a sub in the storage area behind the rear seat, on the drivers side. This is where the sub is located on the factory premium sound system on a Sport Trac. The area behind the seat on a screw looks the same.

Yup... I can point you straight to the straight jacket... straight I say... STRAIGHT! hehehehe

As far as the sub is concerned, Al brings up a good point. Seems like they would put one in. I believe I've heard of several mounting subs in that area. I guess there is enough room.

Also, didn't I read somewhere that a 'premium sound system' was going to be available on the 03 KR? A system WITH a sub? That might be the Krispy Kreme's talking though... hard to say.

Yes, it is I that has the sub in the rear console. I am about to add another custom fiberglass enclosure between the two consoles to add another one too. Kind of blend them together and have extra nicknack storage.

I managed to get the lid so it doesn't rattle too much. I lined the lid seal with foam tape so it doesn't rattle until I really crank the bass, but by then the rear window is rattling too. So hopefully by the end of this weekend I will have 2 12's instead of just 1.

Did you have to make the "Box" around the speaker yourself or did you have somone do it for you...

I did it myself. I have built numerous sub boxes in the past, so I did it myself. It took me the better part of two weeks working on and off on it, as this new one is as well. Hopefully I can finish up my new one this weekend.

dufunnel, I have to say you do nice work. I liked the idea of the sub in the console. Nice use of all that space too

I've never been able to build a really nice box that wasn't square. Of course I haven't tried since my high school years. I'm a little more patient these days. What I do love and am good at, is being able to gut a vehicle, lay down all the wiring and equipment and get it all back together looking like it was stock. May sound crazy but I love doing that. I lost count of how many friends I've helped install stuff in their cars.

The money I could have made.

Believe it or not, this one is square. I completely replaced the framework of the console with this piece, so it bolts to the existing piece that holds the console down and then the top console piece attaches to the box. Quite ingenius if I do say so myself. If I am forced to take it out this weekend to finish up my other box, I will take pictures of the way it is in there.
