Talking Bug Sheilds - King Ranch

Hello fellow KR owners....new to this forum. I was checking if any KR owners had bug sheilds on ther trucks. I had toyed with a painted one, but wife thinks smoke would look better. She usually is right (DONT TELL HER), but I wanted to see pics prior to purchasing one...

Thanks

SC

Karate,

Welcome to our forum! I did a little hunting when I saw that you had posted and found this from a few months ago...

https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...threadid=84592

I think this will help out alot!

What color King Ranch do you have? What year? Have any pictures?

Again, welcome to the "REAL KING RANCH FORUM". We're a bunch of crazed loonies when it comes to our trucks thus, if you have ANY QUESTIONS WHAT SO EVER, feel free to post them. You'll probably get more input than you've ever wanted! LOL! Mainly from this user we have named skagel.

Also, one thing you'll notice about us; we poke fun alot. We're serious when we need to be but, I think I speak for most all of us, we like to have a good time and talk about things other than our trucks. In some aspects, we use this forum as a 'chat board' and discuss everything from trucks to installing fences with carpets and kitchen appliances scattered in the mix.

If you can put up with us, we'd certainly love to have you in the mix with us!

WELCOME!!

Skagel has a Lund Stainless Steel one... looks nice, but with the guard and the lights, I think it might be just over the edge of too much "bling" on the front.

(OK, I'm just jealous I don't have one yet)

OK, the real reason I didn't get one is I don't like the way it fits... the Lund Interceptor style rubs too much of the hood for my liking (not to mention that there isn't quite as much clearance as necessary against the grille guard)

I love the looks, just not the execution... My .02 though... most people have no problems with them.

But bug shields are so INTERESTING !!

I actually wake up some nights thinking about mine and wondering if I might make some infinitesimal aerodynamic alteration to the angular configuration in order to maximise the dynamic flow vic a vis the structural integrity of the hood.

Actually and this IS a serious question....though I suppose you're all too young to remember....over here in the UK in the 50's there was a craze for fitting bug shields to saloon cars...sorry...sedans.
They didn't look much like our truck bug shields though...they were positioned in the middle front of the bonnet ....sorry....hood....were only about 6 inches wide by about 4 inches high and were vaguely shaped like a butterfly.

The idea was to divert bugs away from the windscreen...sorry....windshield...but I guess they never worked very well as they only lasted a couple of years.

My question is......I can never recollect seeing them fitted to American cars of the era...

Do y'all know any different. ?

Now you can all go "YAWN !!"

Hello Karatekids (aka Mystery KR owner),

Bugshields, we don't need no stinking bugshields...I hate them and refuse to put one on my truck. Each to his own with mods. I've had them on several trucks and they are just not necessary IMHO. If you've got to have one, then if it were me, I'd go with the smoke tint since painting it would be high maintenance with scratches and such.

Good luck and let's get some more info on you and your precious KR...

Rocky Peak,

You're always asking for questions. I've got one, just how the hell do you get so much time at work to post here??? Man, I can't hardly get all my work done as it is and I use the internet for only important searches, honestly...You must not have someone looking at your internet access while at work, or maybe you do and they just haven't read the reports yet, hahahaha.

Get to work...Don't you have a fence or something to build???

Later,

~DM~

Down here in FL the bug deflector actually does some good. We have these things called Love Bugs and they eat paint in a hurry. The sheild seems to keep most if not all the bugs off the hood. A few get on the window, but it does seem to deflect most of those too. Then you always have the Bra, but that's almost more ugly than is't worth Here's the wifes KR....
