New kid on the block
New kid on the block
Hello All,
I write this with mixed emotions, Saturday I traded my 2000 red Lightning in on a Charcoal Blue 2002 4x2 5.4L KR SCREW.
I loved my Bolt but it is not a good single income primary family vehicle (oh maybe when BOY goes off to college).
You should've heard my 6 yr old when I started pulling the Wet Okoles and stuff outta the L and into the KR (he was in back <HIS seat>)
"Dad why you doin that?"
"because we sold the lightning to these guys so we could get this truck."
"I thought we were buying this for Mommy and keeping the L"
"We can't son"
"I don't like this truck anymore Dad we have to give it back"
and it went downhill from there
At any rate If I had to pick a truck to lose my baby to then the KR is it. They are hard to find around here (especially with the 60/40 split rear). I was looking at the only one they had on the lot (a supercab 4x4) and it was OK but we had a specific list of stuff and were about to buy a Lariat. We were due to come back Friday to close a deal on the Lariat when I got a call from the salesman who said we have 2 split rear SCREWS on the truck one 4x4 and one 4x2 both Charcoal Blue. I said call me when they're there he did and now it's in my driveway. He was waiting for the truck and drove it straight to the back lot, it had 9.6 miles on it.
These were the only SCREW KRs they had received all year and since I was really time constrained I couldn't order one and dealer searches in the area were fruitless, someone must've wanted to ensure I got one
Pros:
Beautiful truck! I love the colors inside and out.
The "new truck and new Castano leather" smell is intoxicating
Cheaper to maintain than a Lightning.
Rare than Lightnings and Harleys (at least in this area)
Tons -o- Room
Cons:
It's not the bolt! It's not the bolt! It's not the bolt! It's not the bolt!
I have a 6 year old and this is the daily driver.
It's not the bolt! It's not the bolt! It's not the bolt! It's not the bolt!
and lest I forget....
It's not the bolt! It's not the bolt! It's not the bolt! It's not the bolt!
So to the issue... What do I need to watch out for? I already did a search on seat conditioning but are there any other gotcha's?
Thanks in advance for all the help...

POOH,
Welcome to the clan. It's unfortunate that you chose Skagel's color but, we'll accept you into our helm (yeah, I like the Charcoal but, I just figured that I wouldn't pass up the opportunity to throw mud at Tomas - Skagel's truck).
No, it's not the L but you'll soon realize that the leather (as you call it - intoxicating - very good addage) will overcome you're wishes to have the L and you'll soon forget exactly what was under the hood in the L.
HEHE, sounds like you've got your kid well trained. He/she will come around soon.
Again, welcome to the group and I know you'll L-O-V-E your new ride.

Welcome!!!! Congradulations on the superior choice of color.
I must tell you now that you have a KR you may want to check your health insurance to make sure it covers you for mental health because you will become as obessed as the rest of us with your new baby.
Hopefully we will get to meet your baby next year at the King Ranch in Texas.
Happy Modding!!

Nice choice of trucks. As far as I know, you are the only other 4x2 Charcoal Blue on this board besides me. Everyone else went with either the other colors or the 4x4. I think that especially in your case, you will eventually mod up the KR to be as close to the L as you can. The mods are too easy to come by and most are very worthwhile. As you can tell I have been busy on mine for quite some time.
Welcome to the KR club
I have the 4x2 also, well my wife does anyway
It gives me an excuse to hang out here at least. I just put some new pictures of it up in my gallery.
Hey, maybe you'll be the first one to put a supercharger on a King Ranch? I've been waitting to see that one.

Sorry VG, forgot all about you. You're even here in Florida. I'm currently in the final throws of researching superchargers, so hopefully I will have mine on soon.

That'll be sweet if you get it done. I'd love to do that, but it's expensive and my wife would probably never get the enjoyment out of it that I would. Now the expedition would be cool to, but 400hp on that delivery van would be kinda scary. Would have to overhual the suspension on top of the cost for the SC. I did see a 2000 expi in a truck magazine once that had the 5.4 putting out 410hp. They were joking that the vette's had trouble keeping up with him in the 1/4 mile.
Cool 7 replies already, I guess I won't be lonely...
RockPick,
I did lurk the board 1st and picked this color BECAUSE it's SKAGELS fav (she does have a 45 cal sig after all so can't say I wanted chestnut) JK... my fav color is blue
Actually for the L no training required for the boy, (daddy make the smoke come!) But he is getting used to it he really loves the back seat...
I already like it a lot so yeah love is coming (or am I on the "rebound?").
SKAGEL,
WE know what the best color is (I don't need the 4x4 however as it snows here 1 inch every 2 years).
I did, however, get undercoating so I don't get flamed this winter for actually DRIVING my sweet, loving, charcoal blue KR on SALT covered roads
BTW the King Ranch trip is a LONG thread, anyone gimme a quick synopsis on the status? I mentioned it to my wife (who is trying to usurp my truck) and she is ready to roll... but need dates etc...

You have been busy, here's some responses to my goodbye on the L board though...
- Locosvt...
"There's a lot of us married guys living on the edge of justifiying a gas guzzling, noisy, rough riding toy. I think a moment of silence for our fallen brethren is in order.
There, but for the grace of God, go I.
- HamrHead
"Here's the phone number for Kenne Bell- 909-941-6646
Buy a supercharger for it and get it over with. You know ya wanna!"
- SVT360
is there a place for your wife to stow your ***** in the king ranch???
I should've replied "more room than in the L"
Does the Burl kit come for handles only or are there dash pieces as well? (and the gauges are on my "bring back memories" list!)
BTW, shweet truck....
VG
Thanks for the welcome and I'm up with the wife thing
I don't think I'll be 1st though, with 24 month financing it'll be beanie weenies and 2 day old bread for awhile, and I don't think "well we could just have beanies" will work...
Thanks for the replies all, I feel SLIGHTLY better... some feelings
concerning "intoxicating"
6AM walk out the door (tree enveloped house, birds singing, sun just starting to rise). See the new KR in the driveway (quick mourn for the L) but DAMN isn't that a gorgeous color? Look at the mix, open drivers door and have to wonder which holder to put the coffee in (half asleep, remember can't spill coffee on the SEAT or skagel will lambast me, it IS a travel cup") buckle BOY in and slide into the drivers seat, "REALLY comfortable!" close the door and the smell hits, smelled MANY new cars but , WOW!
So while I may OCCASIONALY whine about the L the KR is my new baby....
So, at 1706 miles and 26 hrs I'm up for the KR trip.... since mama says so.... Thanks for the welcome

Musta been tough to giove up the L. I'm trying to convince my wife that we need a new Mustang, but so far it's been an uphill battle. She thinks that its not a practical choice with a new baby on the way, we already have 2 new vehicles, who's going to pay for it..etc. If you had to get rid of the L, you made a good choice going with the KR.

P.S. You bought the wrong color, though.

Hello Poohbear,
Welcome to our group...sounds like you have found the vehicle that you'll be satisfied with for some time, I know I've come to discover that the Super Crew is the most practicle vehicle made for me. I like the 4x4 not because I need it all that often but because I like being able to adjust the torsion bars to get it to sit level, can't do that easily with a 4x2. Also, I like sitting up high as it feels safer to me and the extra weight seems to make for a better and smoother ride, just my opinion though. My three year old son has his own bucket seat to himself so he told me yesterday that it's my truck and his truck...hmmm.
Anyway, enjoy and try to hold onto your sanity because some in this crowd have their own customized straight jackets
. Oh yeah, my favorite color is blue too, but I sure do love that Chestnut. Chestnut is a color that's hard to define as it's not really brown and it's not really purple or maroon. Chestnut must be a mixture of colors becuase I see something different almost each time I look at it in different lighting conditions.
Later,
DaveMan

The Ford dash kits have the four window pieces and the radio bezel piece. I haven't gotten around to taking pictures of the radio piece since I have done more mods, but will soon. I liked that one over the other aftermarket ones because those just had too much in them. I like the simplicity and better contour of the Ford kit. I got the Oxford Burl color because it matches quite well with the interior. Some have expressed interest in the carbon fiber or other color as well, which are all in the accessories brochure.
LOL at the supercharger comment. I myself am looking at the Ford Motorsports kit (Powerdyne unit) because it is only $1999 and it has proven to be quite worthy. I have been trying to justify it with the fiance though. I will have to get it before we get married though. Then no more with the truck. I had better get cracking with it!
