Heck, do like I did and swing by autozone and pick up the exact match. (even though I kinda missed on the beige--it's a little too 'gold').

It's pretty cheap. Heck, this mod cost me less than $10.

No autozones around here, but i'm gonna go to pepboys on saturday and return my window decal that i bought (for the top of the windshield) cuz the window tint is too dark to see through. Anyway, I'm gonna pick up some high temp silver (that should still work on plastic alright wont it???) and If they have HD orange i'll get some, but i'll get anything that's close to the pinstriping color. Not like it will be that noticible of a difference. One more question, when you painted it, did you remove the masking tape right after you painted it? or did you wait until the paint dried to remove it??? Thanks for the help.

Geez, all this over a little paint mod that few will even see.

Anybody have photoshop???

Hey Rock,

You could've saved your self hours of labor painting that plastic cover and bought me a couple of beers and would've had a few bucks left over to tip a hooter's doll baby.

Dave, Hooters Girls?!?! Damn man, you can send those over just because we're friends!!

Harley, I let the paint dry totally before removing the tape. I was EXTREMELY careful when I took the tape of however. I actually took a mechanical pencil (metal) and ran it up and down the edges of the 5.4 plate in an attempt to seperate the paint on the tape from the paint on the plate.

Luckily, I didn't loose any paint on the plate but, I'm not sure that removing it immediately after painting wouldn't be a bad idea.

One side note, if you get any bleeding or overspray; a solution of 75% fingernail polish remover and 25% water, with a toothbrush, will remove the mistakes.

RockPick, thanks alot for the help. High temp paint for my brake calipers should work for the plastic, won't it??? Anyway, i took the cover off today, and i'm probably gonna get the paint tomorrow. Here's 2 pics that LLoverCrazyJay and J15BIG photoshoped for me. I'm leaning towards the one with the black triton and red 5.4L. Well thanks again, i'll let ya know how it turns out.

Thanks ViperGrendal, I'm definately going with the black triton and red 5.4L. I wish we had the "powered by ford" actual emblem like the new 02 HD's have. It looks pretty cool

Aight, i'm done it...well almost. I still gotta touch up some spots 2morrow on the letters to even out the edges, but it's practically done. Now i just need to know whether or not i should clearcoat. I guess it couldn't hurt. Only pain would be remasking, but i taped a plastic bag around most of it so it wasn't that bad to do. Well thanks for your help, (geez, i sure did ask enough questions about this little paint mod. LoL) But i wanted to make sure it turned out right the 1st time. Here's a few pics of how it turned out. Next up- Brake calipers. but 1st i gotta find silver high temp paint, can't find it at pepboys, i'll probably have to go to till paint (automotive paint shop). Have you done yours yet RockPick? I'm sure i'll have some more questions. LoL ;-)

Hey, i wonder where that sticker on the left came from? LoL

not the best pics but i'll post one when i get it back on the truck. I'll probably clear coat it 2morrow, and put it back on monday or tuesday. I wanna make sure its completely dry before i put it back on just for me to drive somewhere and dirt stick to it or the paint melt cuz black truck plus its so friggin hot and humid here.. (90 something and mega humid today...it sucks. I only like this weather for bike riding suprisingly

Hey Harley and Rock,

Since you guys modify these plastic engine covers so well, maybe you should buy some extra ones and try and sell them on Ebay or something. I bet there are folks who'd buy one at the drop of a hat and they are applicable for any 5.4 Liter engine truck Ford makes, right?

Thanks for the compliments, i'll probably put it back on tuesday cuz i just finished evening out the edges of the paint on the letters. I tested the clear coat on something else and it melted the silver paint. Good thing i tested it first.

DAVEMAN, how much do you think that i could get for one of those? I'll probably head out to a junk yard and swipe em off a few dead f150's. I think they make it for the 4.6L too. Not a bad idea at all man. Thanks. I could even offer color options.

anybody know how much a new piece costs???

Hey Harley,

That cover looks awesome installed, good job. Also, I checked out the car show pictures and that was impressive too, that was some fairly fancy picture editing you did and I used to attend car and truck shows on occassion but haven't in probably 15 or more years.

Congrats on all your work and good luck with your next showing.
