KR'ing in 2003...please read !

KR’ing in 2003…please read.

I am taking a little liberty posting this and although it may seem a little lengthy please do read.

It is nearly time for Daveman’s long awaited trip to the KR.
He has put a lot of effort into trying to drum up enthusiasm but now it seems that it will only be himself and Skagel…..and not even a KR truck!
I might have problems getting there with my truck but that is thanks to a mad barge captain who has stranded us on our island.
In 30 years no-one has tried to get through our swing bridge with a three wide barge train….but he had a go, and failed.
The idiot even tried to do a runner….with his barges, can you believe !?

Anyway back to the main event.

To be successful these events such as the King Ranch trip really need a lot of planning and it may be for the best that Dave will be there with Skagel to do a recce for NEXT YEAR !! Hint Hint !

For many years I have been involved with a club that has organised events all over the world.
2 years ago with the co-operation of the Jordanian Royal Family some of our club cars were shipped out to the Middle East for a quite spectacular 10 days.
Imagine driving in convoy down Amman’s main street in company with the Royal Jordanian Camel Corps, with a member of Royalty in each car !
This year is seeing a similar trip to Malaysia and in 2004 some club members will be seeing their pride and joy shipped out to Australia for a grand tour.

And in case you are wondering…No…. I haven’t been fortunate (or rich enough) to go on any of these tours.
My wife was trying to pursuade me to go on the Jordanian trip as she had always wanted to see the Rose Red City of Petra…but we chose to move house at that time.
I haven’t even been involved in the planning of those tours, but I have organised day events at Stately Homes, Castles etc, and know the effort that goes into those to do them properly.
What is necessary for major world tours I can barely imagine but I know that for even short 2/3 day events a planned recce several months or a year beforehand is necessary.

So where is all this leading…..?
I never saw this year’s trip coming to much as Dave was trying to please too many people by trying to arrive at a compromise of dates.
We need to fix a date a good long while in advance…like now for May 2003…then people can plan ahead and have that date set aside in their diary.
Meantime Dave and Sarah can see the accomodations, make contacts with various people down there, and assure us of a good few days.
We might even get some sponsorship.

All it needs is for us to support their efforts and make the commitment to attend next year.
Surely we can get 15/20 KR’s together with a little bit of forward thinking.

Meantime Dave and Sarah, enjoy your trip albeit without your KR’s,
(I WILL try to be there), and maybe when we do all eventually get together it will be a visit to remember.

Thanks for all your efforts in this, and your contributions to an enjoyable forum.

Again Dave and Sarah I hope you have a great trip. I agree with Lenticular maybe Dave and Sarah can check things out for a posible return visit with a larger group. Either way I especially want to thank Daveman for all his efforts in trying to get this trip to work. Most important of all have fun.

hey Lenny, it looks as if Dave and I might be getting a supercrew......I think that is a little closer to a KR then a sporttrac!

anyways, yes maybe we can do this with our trucks next year.....and with any luck I can talk my mother into letting me drive and I can persuade my b/f to do the actual driving....hehehe.....I don't care much for driving, but I love being the passenger......if not I will have my Tomas shipped down and I will just fly......

It looks as if we are going to stay at the Holiday Inn in Kingsville, for you shooters out there we are going to check out a public range in Houston, they also have a public skeet range in Kingsville, but won't be checking it out for I am not bringing a rifle.....

If Dave is up for it we can taste test all the barbque places and find the best one....hehehe.....we will see if Daveman can keep up with me and my massive appetite.

Wow, I'm speechless, as if I needed to say anything else. Man, I'm flattered that some think I deserve anything but a firm kick in the **** for not planning better.

Actually, I started asking for folks to commit on the third of Feburary of this year, here's the link to the page in the thread:
https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...5&pagenumber=9

Anyway, I guess it just wasn't enough planning and BTW, this is the first trip I've ever tried to plan, wait this is the second attempt at the KR, so failure I guess is expected.

Oh well, thanks a million Lenny, LINYScrew and Sarah, I really need some help cause planning is not my strong suit, I'll even be willing to back off and let another member take a crack at it to see if they have better luck, whatever works, I just want to meet some new friends that share a common passion and like to have some fun.

Thanks,
~DM~

Don't back off Daveman...

"You da man"....I think the expression is over here.

I'm sure most who visit this forum have noticed your commitment and enthusiasm, so I hope more of us really will be able to join in a full program of KR 'ing at a date to be fixed maybe next year or when YOU think appropriate.
You should know that if at the end of the day things don't work out it will not reflect on you and you will not have failed !

Damn, I'm really upset that I'm not going to be able to make it. You all are really awesome folks and we all share a common thread with this board and our trucks. I enjoy reading and posting with you folks. Lots of times, this board is the only thing that has even a vauge potential to brighten my ever-so-stressful daily grind. Thanks guys and gal.... hopefully we can pull something together for next year.... and hopefully, I'll be in a better situation so that I can jet for a week and enjoy it with you all.

You all be careful in your travels and again, I'm very sorry I can't make it.

Skagel, Budget Car Rental rents SCREWs. I get one every time I'm out in Washington State. Just thought I'd give you all the heads up on that one...

Apologies

Sorry I waited so long to confirm or not confirm, but this data project has been uncertain up until now. I was definitely going to come down if only the kick-off had been a week later, but we are getting pressure from the mother company to start it this week. Saturday morning at 6:00 I will be in the office setting up new database servers and bringing them online for the project.

I know that you guys are going to a great deal of effort and expense to come down to Texas, and I truly honor that effort. I feel badly about this. I know the few of you meeting up will have a blast, though. South Texas is very cool.

Hey KRA,

Do you mean that South Texas is awesome cool or temperature cool? I think you mean awesome but I just had to ask.

Wish you could be there man, Oh well, Everyone can't make it but like Lenny said, if we start planning now we should be able to do it again next year and do it up big.

Hope yall have a blast, Kingsville is my home town. I am part owner of 1200 Acres on the south side of Kleberg county and borders part of the King Ranch, If i was going to be in town I would be more than glad to take yall out for some shooting, and even a few beers afterwards.

If you looking for Bar-B-Que, go to Joe Cottons Bar-B-Que in Robstown, it is about 20 minutes from Kingsville and they serve the food on Butcher Paper...no plates. There is nothing but Mexican food places in Kingsville.

And if your hungry for super cheap fast mexican food go to Casa De Tacos on 14th Street and order a Compuesta (kinda like taco salad).

Theres only 1 bar worth going to and that is the Country Lual, its right off campus on Kleberg Ave.

I hope yall have a safe trip and I would be more than happy to go down there but i am going to see some family South of San Antonio for the weekend.

Oh and as far as the weather goes, pack light, expect temps in Kingsville to be in the low 100's every day. and usually SUPER WINDY!

Okay Shanker,

Thanks for the tips. Oh, and I guess there's not many that can top your sig with that rocking and rolling hot chick.

Man, how'd you do that. You really got a double wide? Does it have a redwood deck and polyester curtains?
