Sunroof Wind Deflector

What do you all think about these things?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1823074714

Be honest... I'm really wanting some opinions.

Also, FYI, it looks like the dealership is going to give me credit on replacing my rear glass (because it has a couple of pinhole leaks) for a slider installed. I'll keep everyone posted because I know you'll be waiting in suspense...hahahaha.

Have a good day folks.

I have been thinking of installing one in Tomas......I am tall and the wind blows my hair all over the place when I have my sunroof open......don't care about my hair getting messed up I just don't particularly care for eating my own hair....I want a stainless one, but they don't exist....I am going to have my dealer paint one to match Tomas so it won't stand out.

Hi Rockpick....

I don't have the sunroof on my truck (PS I was surprised to see you mention the European version.....I thought you called them "Moonroofs" !)

So....I haven't seen one on an F150, but don't they have a small built in deflector that pops up as the roof opens that is designed to fulfil the same objective as the large one you are considering?

Sunroofs are not as popular in Europe now as they used to be...with almost universal a/c people generally don't want them.
Some years ago these deflectors were very popular when people ordered sunroofs more often and they did serve a purpose in cutting down wind noise and buffeting.
But as I say manufacturers became more adept at fitting their own inbuilt version which wind tunnel testing allowed to do the same thing.

I honestly think they are a bit "passe" and you don't really need it!

But...do I need a billet grill, and half the other stuff we put on our trucks?!

On balance though I would say "No" ....keep your money and buy a pair of furry dice to hang from your rear view mirror....

Cheerio old chap !

Come to think of it......

If I buy it, and stick it to the roof, people WILL think I've got a sunroof.....MMmmmm !!

Then again, I could put a Bentley badge on the front, not too many Bentley Pick ups around.

Hang on.....I might as well go the full Monty....I've got a spare
"Spirit Of Ecstasy" somewhere.....now THAT would would look really fancy....especially if I gold plated it !

(Considered totally "Naff" in RR circles !!)

in answering your question, Lent, regarding wether there is a built in deflector to the sunroof......the answer is.......I ordered my truck from the factory with a sunroof and it has no deflector built in.....on the other hand my b/f had his installed I believe at the dealership.....mind you his truck is a Lariat scab not a KR screw....and his has the deflector.....I agree I don't like the look of the deflector, but Tomas sits up so high and if it was color matched it will really be hard to notice it.

Are we talking about the same deflector ?

When the manufacturers build a deflector into the sunroof mechanism, it is a small strip...perhaps only 1 or 2 inches wide that rises to an angle of about 60 degrees at the front edge of the opening...I doubt you would even see it on a KR being fairly high off the ground....it is certainly not a prominent feature like the one on EBay.

If as you say you are getting buffeted from the open roof then Ford has not done it's job properly in designing it.

I must find a KR with a s/r and have a proper look.
(You wouldn't believe how many there are around here now in South Texas.....I seem to see a couple every day!)

(I hope they are not getting...COMMON !)

Yup Lent, I know what you're talking about. Skagel, go out and open your roof, watch the little black piece at the FRONT (engine side) of the sunroof pop-up as you slide it back. That's what Lent's talking about I believe.

If anyone wants to buy it, go ahead... no problem with me. I'm just kicking around some thoughts... wanted a few opinions...

yeah I know what your talking about.....my nissan maxima had one....my mom has a factory sunroof and it is exactly like the mine....if anything pops up I haven't seen it.......I had this little arguement with my b/f about it when I first started complaining about the wind......he said the same thing......then I made him check out my truck.....no little black wind deflector popped up.

Well said....
I wouldn't post those sort of comments if I didn't think you could give as good as you take.

(As the Bishop said to the actress whilst locking the door of the potting shed at the bottom of the garden!)

I've found that by lowering the drivers side rear window about 2 inches, when you have the sunroof open all the way, it allows the air flow to be as such as to not mess up my hair.

I had to bend mine up a little higher to get more deflection , works great now ... but I do get a little wind when on the highway . opening the rear windows a bit does help ...
