Hello all,

I'll be there when planned. I hope some others take the plunge but if not then there's not much stopping me and Skagel.

Hey Skagel,

I'm looking into portable GPS and mapping software now. I was looking at Delorme and they've got a package called EarthMate and it's a GPS receiver with mapping software that you use with a laptop or Pocket PC or Palm OS and it's around $140. Is this similar to what you have or is this totally different? There are a few extra cables and software required to use the Pocket PC and Palm and I don't have either of those now so that's in the future.

Talk soon,

~DM~

I bought a Magellan 750M....here is a link to some information on it.....I needed something that rerouted me when I got lost.....and of course something that talked because I don't have anyone in the truck to help me navigate using just a screen....I would end up rear-ending somebody because I was looking down at the screen.

Skagel,

That Magellan is a very nice piece of electronics but it's out of my price range. I decided to go with the DeLorme portable GPS that's used with a laptop or Palm PC. It's only $139 with the software. If I decide to get a Palm later then I'll have a combo about the size of what the Magellan 750 is.

Later,
~DM~

yes, it is a bit pricey and that is why I didn't buy it originally, but after ending up in Chicago on my way home from Holland Michigan I thought that it would be worth it after all.

Chevy/GM uses 'ON-STAR' quite extensively on it's vehicles. It might be time for FORD to find a comparable product (or even use 'ON-STAR'). The idea certainly makes sense and I know it's bailed my grandmother out of a bind once or twice. It's pretty neat... you'll push the button and a human pops on the interior system and says "Yes Mr (or Ms) BLAHBLAH, How can I help you?"

I know it costs a little bit to have it available per month however, I know it's paid for itself with my grandmother when she was involved in a wreck and I know she uses it for directions when they're on their way to their condo in Florida.

GM own ON-STAR or something? Anybody know?

Sarah,

What do you mean Lenny won't be able to make it, that's one of the reasons we're going down there. Hell, Lenny can drive his rig over that little creek called the intracoastal waterway if that bridge doesn't open in time.

If that bikini offer doesn't work, then I think you might have to up the ante...but I'm not suggesting anything specific...or am I?

Oh well, it'll be their loss, I guess. We'll have fun and maybe if we record all the events we can do it again next year. At least we'll be charting the waters for the next year's wave of adventures.
