Anyone spring for the extended warranty??

hey gang,

i do have a question for you. how many of you purchased the extended warranty? i'm kinda leaning toward doing such myself after what happened to my sister and cousin. both of them have expeditions with the 5.4l engine. my sister's is a '99 and my cousin's a '00. my sister just had to have her engine replaced after the head gasket went t_ts-up! my cousin got away with just replacing the head gasket. my sister's truck only had about 35k miles on it. not sure about my cousin's.

anyhoo, do any of you know whether or not this is still an issue with the 5.4l engine? if so, i might be thinking about getting an extended warranty. thanks for any feedback you got!!

It is not necessary to purchase the extended warranty now. You can purchase the "dealer offered" ext. warr, anytime before your base warranty runs out. The best time to purchase the warranty is at approx. 32k miles or 6 months prior to expiration (depending if you run out of time or mileage first). Let me tell you that there may be a chance that you have to do a "used vehicle inspection" at your cost. It could run you up to 2 hours dealer labor rate, and has to be performed at the dealer.

The plus side to waiting until this time, is that the cost is not financed and most times the warranty is ALOT cheaper than at the time of vehicle purchase. AND you don't waste your time and mileage, since extended warranty starts at time of purchase.

Hope this helps.....

Ahh, it's refreshing to get more women in here. I think this is a sign that our trucks *DO* attract women. (Skagel, in your case, I know it attracts men... that's a proven fact... I mean heck, read this forum!)

Ya know, thus far, we've been blessed with two or three seemingly sharp ladies on these trucks. Heck... they probably know more than I do. Hey skagel, how about trading?

Yus, I did !

6 years or 60.000 miles.

BUT only because when I went to the dealer to finalise the deal the figures didn't work out at what I had figured them.
When I was about to turn down the deal they said...Oh of course those figures include the 100.000 mile warranty.

I pointed out I hadn't requested that and they said most customers want it (!) so they work it into the final figure to help out with financing.

I complained and said I was not paying for something that should be warranted anyway at which point they showed me the dealer's own costs and let me have the 6 year deal at their cost.

I don't know how much it happens in the States but over here any consumer goods (Well, large mechanical or electrical items) are always sold on the basis that the customer will be offered extended warranties.
Of course they are expensive but the sales staff make as much if not more commission on these as from the goods themselves.

Since by law goods have to be warranted anyway for a certain period which is the time that things will probably go wrong, I am very much against paying over the odds for these deals.

An expensive truck IS different though, BUT you CAN negotiate the cost...well I did, but I'm an ockard old cuss !!

yes, I sprung for the 7 year 75,000 mile zero deductible ford ESP. I did it because my b/f told me to......and no I don't do everything he tells me to.....almost, but not everything. Anyways it wasn't much of a concern cost wise for me since I was paying cash and I was getting an X plan plus I think at the time I even got an extra $500 off because I owned another car other then a Ford product. If I remember right I had to bring in my title for that car or something.

And sorry Rock I am keeping my Thomas forever. It'll probably be passed down to my son kinda like our '31 Model A is being passed to my bro......hey it could happen....not to many of our trucks out there....and you guys know how I baby my Thomas....they could become collectors items.

Warranty?

I will probably purchase one soon. I had planned on having it by now. I will most likely buy a third party warranty since they cover wear and tear and cost much less than any price I have recieved for Ford's ESP.

I have the 75,000 Mile one as well. There is no telling what could go wrong down the road. Although as soon as that runs out something major will happen. Murphy's Law in effect!

I'm thinking about 'springing' near the end of the factory warranty... We'll see though. Thank god I bought one on my 1997 Blazer (total piece of crap). I would've gone broke if I didn't have it. It's not a wonder that I only owned it for 4 months.

GOD, WHAT WAS I THINKING!? *kicks himself*
