Angry Headlight Out of Alignment...

Well, I guess the tried and true method of unlatching the headlights out of their resting place doesn't work as well as we thought...

I pulled my headlamps out to clean around the inside of that area yesterday and they're out of alignment now. One seems to aim higher than the other. I didn't mess with anything that has to do with the alignment!! NOTHING! I simply popped ONE (*the driver's side*) out and cleaned. Didn't do it to the passenger side. Keep in mind that I've had both of them out on a few occasions however haven't had this problem. I've tried simply taking it back out and attempting to re-align them... no luck. I'm going to have to use the little micro-adjustments to get them back in line. I'm dreading this like the plauge. I simply can't figure out why in the world they would be out of focus (and before you anti-superwhite folks start posting, no, they don't burn hot nor have they warped my housings). It just looks awful pulling up behind someone at a stoplight at night and seeing one headlamp aiming high and the other downward. *yes, I'm picky*. IMO, it makes it look like I've had front end work done to the truck and it's NEVER been wrecked. (we've all seen it at night... one headlight aiming at your eyes while the other is focused on the road -- pretty safe to deduct that the car had been in a fenderbender).

Oh well, as daveman says, I'll get down off of my soapbox now. I just don't think that the bulb changing system is fool proof (that or, I'm just a fool). Those little micro adjustments, I have a bad feeling, are going to be a SOB to align. Wish me luck... *plays the mission impossible theme in the background*

I didn't do it...

Couldn't convince myself that adjusting that one bastard headlight was worth my time... I'm going to have the dealership do it. I have a buddy in the body shop that, I know, will do it for free. Why should I stress over it right?

Digging this one up...

Hey RP -

Did you take this issue to your friend as mentioned or do it yourself? My new truck's lights are "out" and I want 'em aligned, but REALLY don't want the hassle of having to take it in. Just curious if this was something I could do on my own with relative ease.

Thanks!!

I actually ended up doing it myself by buying a headlight adjustment tool off of ebay.

It's CAKE to do but, you need to be patient.

Hit a Deer, I did works great you can bust them out in seconds. I did or you can do what this guy did and the truck only had 18 miles on it.
.
.

I heard later on he was on the phone with the dealer making plans to finalize another deal and when he heard how much the Superduty King Ranch cost he sideswiped a Buick.

Hey RP -

Finally, after what seemed like days of searching, I found the thread with the links to the ebay listing for the adjustment tool. All gone and none in his store. Any thoughts on where I might could buy one (called the AutoZone/Advanced Auto/etc) around here and no luck.

I failed Icelandic DMV Inspection the first time with the King because the fog lamps do not have a "DOT" stamp on the lense like the headlamps do. I had yo remove the lamps completely and get re-inspected in order to pass. The inspector told me quote"that if I put them back on, because the truck looks better with them, be sure to take them off before I get it inspected next year.

LOL @ Sarman.... what a pain in the butt.

I've removed my fog assemblies... it's not that tough but, definately a hassle.

Funny that the inspector basically mentioned that you could put them back in but to be sure to cheat the inspection in a year. LOL

The guy was real appreciative of the truck. He had never seen anything like it and when he got in to drive it in to the bay he was impressed with the leather seats and center consoles but as we all know .... who wouldn't be?

Thanks for all the help guys! Received the adjusting wrench this week and after some tweaking the light looks much better. Still have a little more tweaking to do, but getting there!
