Question Electric Antenna...Is it possible?

Very very interested in seeing if installing an electric antenna is possible on our KRs. I'm one of the unfortunate folks that doesn't have a garage at my disposal (my wife's rice burner gets the garage ) I do, however, have a VERY nice cover that I picked up off of ebay cheap. It's a custom cover made by covercraft, the only problem, it doesn't have an antenna hole pre-cut into the fabric and, I'm not going to go slicing on this cover. I want the protection over 100% of the vehicle and slicing on it, for some reason, just doesn't make sense to me... Thus, I keep a small crecent wrench in the truck with me to pop the antenna off when I throw the cover on it. An electric antenna would make my world SOOO much easier. I think I've seen some Expy's with this feature and know I've seen a couple of Exploders with them. Are these stock? I had a 1998 Explorer XLT (loaded) and it didn't have one. Can I get one for my 01 KR? HELLLP!

Daveman, that electrical schematic could be EXTREMELY helpful here. Any insight?

Anyone seen this mod performed? Is it possible? Thanks for the help guys and gals!

i don't know for sure, but i don't see why you couldn't...they sell the kits here in MI at a place called Murrays for i think $40. i am sure you can get one at auto zone or the equivalent..i have installed one on a nissan 300z once that didn't have one originally. it was a really simple install..even for a chick
anyways i actually thought about installing one on the truck, but found a pretty cool stainless steel ford antenna from jcwittney.

Antenna on the KR

I'm glad someone else has brought this subject up.
When I put my KR into store before coming back to the UK I had to unscrew the antenna and store behind the rear seats before putting the cover on.

It had already occured to me to wonder why on a vehicle of this quality an electric antenna isn't fitted as standard.....
OR MORE TO THE POINT....
Why an antenna at all !!
Many cars now have quite adequate reception through the elements of the heated rear window, or a special antenna element in the front windshield.
My last few vehicles here in the UK have had no antennas at all...my S Type Jaguar has excellent reception through the inbuilt element.

Can't Ford manage this?

(Mind you it's swings and roundabouts....the Jag, a 45K vehicle does not have a CD player as standard.....unbelievable, yet it has voice activation and you can tell it to "Phone Home",
Set "Climate Control 70 degrees" or many other commands....mind you my constant request for an 18 year old blonde has not been satisfied yet, not that I could satisfy an 18 year old blonde !)

(Poor old man!)

Okay, I've solved this problem...

I kicked my wife's Honda out of the garage. It's mine now. No need for an electric antenna.

good man rock, a honda doesn't deserve to be parked next to a ford.

in all truth, a honda doesn't deserve to share the same asphalt as a ford or any other car for that matter.
