KR wouldn't start!!

something happened to me last night that was very odd. i live in a small town and usually just leave my keys in the ignition, but lock the doors when i leave the truck. well, last night after getting off work at midnight, i went out to the truck, punched in the keypad code and got into the truck. turned the key, nothing...
all the lights and accessories came on, but the engine wouldn't turn over (starter motor wouldn't engage). it was pretty cold outside (10 degrees F), so i thought well, maybe the battery is a piece of sh_t. so i grabbed the keys and went back into the office to ask a co-worker for a jump start. came back out a few minutes later and decided to try it one more time. truck fired right up...!! strange to say the least!

so, what could possibly be the problem? after thinking about it for sometime, i'm beginning to wonder if that damn computer chip key doesn't like cold weather. i called the dealership this morning and talked to the service department, and of course the answer was we've never had anybody come in with a problem like that....we can't do anything for you until it finally quits for good. some comfort that is!! so, i guess i'll have to play it by ear and see what happens...argghhh!!!

don't know what to tell ya, but you are probably right about the computer chip in the key not liking the cold weather. ever leave your laptop in the truck over night and try to turn it on in the morning....it doesn't work.....you have to let it warm up a bit.

so you leave your keys in the ignition hu? so where is it that you live oh any what color is your KR? My KR would love to have a playmate in the garage

skagel,

are u flirting with me??! chuckle...chuckle...

i live in aberdeen, sd. town with about 25k worth of folks. kr is charcoal blue just like yours... i refer to my truck in the femal sense and i've noticed you refer to yours as Thomas. so, i guess if our trucks were to meet up in a garage somewhere, a sign would have to be posted that says, "if this sheds a rockin', don't come knockin'! hehe!

Hey Troy,

Long time no hollar at. What's cooking up in SD?

As for the key trick, why don't you take your spare key and put it into the freezer for an hour or two and keep it on ice until you get inside your truck. If that sucker won't work then, Eureka!

Don't forget to try it before you freeze the key so you know it works warm first.

If your bitch and Skagel's Thomas get together, they will produce a redheaded step child named Explorer Sport Track.

Talk Later Man,

DaveMan

c'mon our trucks would produce something more atractive then a sport track. i mean based on my thomas's looks alone and troyk's unmodified KR together have to produce...maybe a KR with a lightning engine

Hey Skagel,

I was talking about at birth, smaller than a Screw but with four doors. Of course it will grow up to be a fine looking Chestnut Screw, what better thing is there to be? After all, you now how biased I am about Screws! Oh, and I almost forgot to add the bastard part too since no marriage would be involved Instead of being a love child, it would be a love Screw but not until it grows out of that terrible twos Sport Track stage.

Troy,

I had no idea you were red headed, damn I guess I should run, not walk to Vegas if I got that kinda luck. Oh, and the red headed part is the Chestnut color 'cause you know two Charcoal Blues must make a Chestnut, right? That's Ford genetics 101, or is it truckology? I know, I'm crazy but so is two truck gettin' together in a garage so I'm not alone thank God!

Have a good day my friends!

Hey Troy,

Don't bale on us man, you started this truck gettin' together business and now you're disturbed? You got me goin' hmmmm...........now who's the crazy one?

C'mon, don't play that innocent card with me, I know better.

Hey, it's over 70 outside but I guess if I freeze my key then I can try it here in SC today. I'll let you know what happens if the key doesn't brake off in the ignition like a piece of rock candy, oh ****!

daveman,

i have to at least try to redeem myself on occasion. maybe i should go to confession, then afterwards i'll feel great and be ready to roll with some more trash talk...ooopps, guess i haven't grasped the meaning of doing such yet!

btw, certainly wish we had those 70 degree readings here!! oh well, we had a heck of a fall up until about a week ago...can't complain to much...

Hey Troy,

I understand completely; you keep on getting redeemed and I'll keep on reminding you that you're a bad boy!

Keep up the good talks, it's fun.

Hey Troy,

I tried the frozen key idea and it 'caused no problems, my truck started up as usual. I guess the key doesn't mind at least freezer temps but if yours was around 10° F outside then my freezer probably didn't get down that low.

Oh well, I tried.

What else is going on up in SD? I hear Gateway is no longer on the top of the computer hill, is that really the truth and is Dell really the king?
