2009 cargo light gasket?

While washing and waxing my 2009 KR yesterday I noticed pine needles etc inside my cargo/bed lamp. I unscrewed the cover to clean it out and noticed that there was no outside gasket around the cover. There is an inner gasket to keep water out but no gasket around the outside edge.

So my question is this. Is there suppose to be a gasket around the outside edge of this lamp?

Thanks

I just looked at my /06 factory cargo/bed lamp. Nothing around the edge, 1/2 inch in from the edge there is a foam cell gasket. If you have a gasket how did the pine needles get in?

Do you see water accumulate when you wash the truck.

No water in the light that I saw. Yes there is a gasket about 1/4 to 1/2 inch inside but the outer edge must be open a hair. I guess the pine needles worked their way in the outer edge. Anyway I had to remove the fixture in order to clean it out.

I was wondering if I was missing an outer gasket. I guess not. Well I know I am not cleaning that out weekly, etc so I guess it is just something that will happen.

What can I say?

Keep in mind we're talking about a 2009... I think the design is a bit different from that of the 2005-2008 KR (which leaks on a habitual basis for many).

My guess is that it's correct but, you may get a little better feel for it asking this one in the 2009 forum...

On my '09, it seems the perimeter of the back light is without a gasket but the areas with the bulbs appeared to be sealed.

Yep BIG ole Truck has described it perfectly. There is a gasket around the edge of the opening where the bulbs are. But around the outside of the lens there is no gasket. I live in the country where there are a lot of pines, oaks, etc. When I got in the bed to wax the roof is when I noticed the stuff inside but all along the inside edge of the lens. So I took it off and cleaned it out the best I could. There is a indentation around the inside edge and I couldn't get all that out.

Rockpick you are right about putting in the 2009 section so more people can see it. Can you move it so the replies here are included?
