Need some 07 King Ranch advice

Hello everybody, I have been out of the F150 business but miss having a big truck. I am ready to make a deal on an 07 KR with a 6.5 foot box. The big drawback for me is it does not have a subwoofer under the back seat. Does that mean I do not have an Audiophile system? Can I just add a sub?

Anything else I should look for on this truck?

Thanks in advance.

John

i have an '07 with the 6.5' bed. i believe that the audiophile option give you the sub, but since it does not exist the truck must not have it. there is a recent thread in this forum where a guy was trying to add a sub so check there for more info. i would think that picking up a stock sub box and adding a sub would be pretty straight forward.

what other options does it have? any links to it? i believe that mine has everything except for nav & dvd, both of which i dont really need.

John,
I have an '08 KR with the factory Nav Head Unit (HU) and the rear DVD player and XM satellite. I did not have the sub under the back seat either. I purchased a factory sub off of the internet and it will not work -- it gets power, but no sound from the HU. It's not a sub problem, but a HU problem. I pulled the HU out to see if in fact it was an audiophile HU, and it looks like one, i.e. all of the connections are there and the subwoofer harness is actually hooked up, but it's not. The HU is even sending power to the subwoofer, just no sound. Some of the factory HUs were inhibited internally by the folks at Pioneer (makers of the NAV HU) so that they were unable to send sound to the subwoofer. Apparently, if the vehicle did not have the factory sub installed (audiophile) during production, Ford put in one of these HUs. It really sucks, because I paid over $2000 for a factory HU that has NO ability to play a subwoofer.

A simpler answer

Here's a simpler answer to your original question:

The KR you're looking at DOES NOT have an audiophile system.

You can add a factory subwoofer (the plug is there), but it WILL NOT work.

Unfortunately, I've already been down this path.

I think for less than 200 you can get the seleen/RF sub to fit there and wire up to the stock headunit.

Build your own enclosure

Yep, i was surprised to learn my brand new 07 didnt have the sub either. So what I did was buy an infinity 12" sub, and a nice little 200 watt amp, and built an inclosure . I did the research and found that I would need 1.25 cubic feet of air space for the sealed box to work. I then used cardboard for a template, and made a sub box that fits under the small seat! There is very little room so you have to use every tiny little bit of space. Another thing I did was to extend the sub box across the front of the seat brackets, and ad an enclosure across the large seat to make enclosed underseat storage , tying it all together...I then covered it with grey fake leather that matches the grey parts of the interior with out drawing attention to it. It ended up looking like a base to the seat. The wiring was another deal altogether. After researching it, I found that running new wires was the only way to go even though there was a harness there. The stock head unit is crappy, but it works fine for me, and I didnt want any more tempting target for thieves than just having what I already have. It sounds great, and the project kept me out of trouble for a while.

If I am not mistaken, the radio has different software programming if the truck did not come with a factory subwoofer. The plugs and wiring might be there, but as stated above the sub won't work.

Try to find a truck with the factory reverse sensing system. My 07 KR does not have that option (No, it was not standard). If I had to buy another truck it would definately have the factory reverse sensing system. I haved added a reverse camera. This really helps to hook up a trailer + you see what is behind you.

If not having a sub is your only problem, then you don't have a problem. If it's a clean truck go for it and add your own sub.

I have the factory reverse sensing system and it's annoying at best. Cam is the way to go.

FWIW my .02 good luck
