Angry oil consumption

my 06 king ranch uses about a quart of oil every thousand miles. ford tells me this is within specs. i have 15,000 miles and bought it used at 12,000 miles. anyone else have oil burning like this? my toyota had aver 100,000 and didnt burn one drop. if i followed the oil change schedule i would beout of oil at the 5000 mile interval.

I'd be pissed. I mean empty the pan, start it up, floor it till she blows, put the oil back in and call 'em pissed............

Suggest to find another opinion. I would expect a motor with that few miles to be in the 3K - 5K per quart range.

Assuming here that it's not leaking it out anywhere?

the stealership has marked and siliconed everything so that i cant add or remove oil. they want me to come back in 1000 miles to check ol level. the vehicle is kept inside and there are no marks on the floor. i cant find any visible leaks anywhere and the tailpipe only produces a small amount of black soot. i asked them to try oil thicker than the recomended 5w-20 and they told me it would void warranty.

Blow Motor for Warranty Replacement!!

Sorry to hear about your truck using so much oil. I had a brand new Dodge (never again) 1500 that used a quart every 900 to 1000 miles ever since it was new. The way I found out that it used so much oil was that when I just purchased the truck new, I had driven the truck about 2400 miles without ever checking the oil and went on a 500 mile round trip. When I got home from the trip which put the truck at just over the 3000 mile mark, I was going to take it to have an oil change done on it the next day, so I just thought to check the oil that evening and found out that there wasn't a lick of oil on the dip stick and had to put 5 quarts of oil into the truck that night before going to have the oil replaced the next day. I believe that the only thing that saved that motor I believed was that I had the dealership put a quart of Slick 50 into the motor right away when I bought the truck. I now very much believe in Slick 50 and put it in to all of my vehicles after the warranty expires but not before because I don't ever want to go through that BS again.
It wasn't leaking it or burning the oil, I took it to dealer after finding out about it using the oil and kept taking it back for them to check where it was going. The service manager just kept telling me they couldn't find any problems every time that I took it to them (which was about 6-7 times) and just kept telling me that it was the industry standard that it used that much oil. I told him that was BS and what I should have done was after the 4th time was file a lemon law suit against them because that truck was nothing but a lemon. Not only did it eat oil like crazy but it also had to have the catalytic converter replaced at 28K miles (this is where I believe the oil was going to and clogged it up), the dash was replaced 3 times, the seats cracked on the side 2 times and had to be replaced, had to replace the motors computer at 82K miles and other things that went wrong. I finally got rid of the demon of a truck and can you believe the night that I bought my 07King Ranch 4X4, I had to wait until the next day to pick up the truck so I drove my Dodge home (which I was going to keep for my wife to use just back and forth to work) and the damn brakes went completely out on the truck half way to my house on my way home. I spent a $1000 dollars on a complete brake job all the way around. My wife drove the truck about a week to work and after about that week, can you believe the transmission went out in it. That was enough I said and just went and bought her a new car. I bought her a brand new 07 Chrysler 300C where it has a lifetime power train warranty on it as long as we own the car. I plan on owning that car for the rest of our lives and letting Dodge/Chrysler keep that car running forever now that it is on them to pay for anything that goes wrong with the power train and get them back for what they put me through with my Dodge Truck.
If I was you and had to do it all over again, that is what I would do is take it to them about 4 times to have it documented that you kept taking it to them and then i would just go without replacing the oil inbetween oil changes and hope that the motor blew up or take them to the BBB and file a lemon law on them if you can in your State. Again, I'm very sorry to hear that you got a truck that uses that much oil and I would definately get rid of it if it was me right away. Good Luck!

Ouch!

If my King Ranch burns any oil (I'm sure it does) it's not enough to notice - I'd say it has some sort of problem!

Rain, snow, sleet, or shine, I check my oil every single time I fill the tank (once every month or two, LOL). Seems that the truck does burn a small amount between oil changes, but not enough to light off any alarm bells. A good paper trail is in your interest. I would press the issue that they give you a positive diagnosis in writing while you're still covered under warranty...

I also just bought a used 06 with just under 17000 miles. I have put about 2000 miles on it without any noticable oil burning. This truck is new to me but ford overhead cam motors are not. This is the second 5.4 I have owned as well as two 4.6 a 3.0 and a 2.0. The one thing they all had in commen was none of them ever burned any oil. I never added oil to any of them between thier 4000 mile oil changes. Something is amiss with your engine, it is not normal as your dealer wants you to believe.

OK. Ive put around 600 miles and it stresses me out that i cant check the oil myself. i contacted a local reporter and they are looking into the whole burning 1 quart per thousand miles thing. im pretty sure the dealership will not want the bad publicity. i just want it fixed, my king ranch is one of those trucks that u want to keep for several years and im not giving up on it yet. will post after i go in for the check-up...

Tell them if you had wanted an oil burner, you'd have bought a diesel. I'd run that rig around with my foot in it. Tach it up to about 5k and hold her ther a while. Make it burn that oil. Frankly, 1 quart per 1,000 miles is outrageous. I am sure Ford will not accept that. I drive that in one week, and sometimes in two days. That would be a cold day in hell I'd be adding oil at that interval. I'd call a lawyer and get the constipation mooooooving. Good luck.
