Leaking sunroof

I recently bought a 2002 F-150 King Ranch Crew Cab 4x4 from its orginal owner. He kept it in great shape. However, after a heavy rain over thanksgiving, I noticed the sun roof leaking inside the cab. The water was actually leaking through the rear door overhead light.

Is this common in these trucks?

Can it be repaired reasonalbly?

Thanks for any help.

Alex

Just get the bastard (the moonroof) resealed. it is a "normal" problem to occur after a couple years, and is a relatively inexpensive fix.

not a common problem. This is the first one I have heard of that was leaking that wasn't just a result of a flaw when it was installed from the factory. I have an 01 and I have yet to have a leak :knock on wood:.

Had one in my Grand Prix that started leaking in the same spot as yours. Took it to the dealer and the channel that the rain water drains out was plugged. I didn't know this but, on my car anyway, if water gets past the rubber seal it drains out this channel that runs down the inside of the door pillar and exits in the driver side wheel well.

Actually, yes, this is a common problem with most F-150 rear windows (97-03) before the body style change. The gasket around the rear window fails and allows water to come through. I do believe that there is a technical service bulletin for this that the dealer can use to fix it properly. I have had two replac ed through this method.
My 05 King Ranch actually leaked around the sunroof and ruined the front passenger seat... at only 5,000 miles. The dealer only fixed the sunroof leak, and that started the saga of that crappy hunk of junk. It was sold cheap just to get it out of my sight... that truck was the worst thing I have ever purchased... made me buy a Chevy!!
