f250 steering wheel has fuzz...

ok, i purchases my truck second hand from my ole man. he wasn't as **** as i am about the leather care, so i had to revive my steering wheel a bit. all i've ever used was a hot damp cloth to clean it, and king ranch leather care to condition, or ranch it out ed's conditioner.

i have what looks to be the leather fibers sticking up like fuzz almost, just on the top part where most ppl keep their hand on the wheel. it's not bad, but i have a feeling it will get worse.

is there something i can use to "buff" this back down to smooth and then condition with my normal conditioner? it's like this area of leather is pitted so to speak.

conditioners do not get the job done.

Check out the Leather Care "Sticky" at the top of the page...

I'm sure this has been covered before.

so nobody has any insight on reworking some leather beyond the typical conditioning?

I personally believe that the leather has 'split' to a certain degree and, as such, you're pretty much stuck with that type of texture unless you want to replace the wheel.

Do you have any pics?

My cousin has serious issues with his '04 F-250 KR wheel. It isn't "pitted so to speak", it is outright pitted.

His wheel isn't completely covered in leather. It is sectional, with the wood trim between the sections. For what it's worth, I'm going to advise my cousin to contact Ranchitout to see if he will cut a piece to re-cover the top section of the wheel, if not the whole thing.

I developed some "fuzz" when I gave my steering wheel the spa treatment. My dumb-self got the wheel completely wet, then grabbed two corners of a towel and pulled it back and forth over the wheel (think of how you would like a Dallas Cowgirl to work a towel). The fuzz has subsided after several conditionings, but it still ain't right. It gets better after every conditioning, though.

I just had the same condition on my 05. I washed the wheel with warm water and later applied the KR conditioner. The wheel became fuzzy. I had an old bottle of Maguire's leather conditioner and it is quite creamy. I put a liberal amount on the wheel and it made it better than new.
