Tow Mirror Option on F-150 for 2008
Tow Mirror Option on F-150 for 2008
I was at the dealer yesterday (Atlanta, GA) getting my 2007 F-150 KR serviced and they had 6 of the new 2008's on the lot- All of them had the F-250 mirrors on them- 4 were KR's and the other 2 were Lariats.
The mirrors are identical to the F-250 (I measured them).
Have you guys seen this option yet? If so, I'd like your opinion.
My opinion is I think they look too big for the F-150. While it would be nice to have the bottom convex mirror portion for backing up, etc., the overall size of the 250 mirror on the 150 just looks huge and out-of-proportion for the truck.

Yea, if you do a lot of towing I'm sure they come in handy. But, I think they look like huge elephant ears hanging off the side of the truck.

Existing mirrors have power, heat, signal and puddle lights.

If these mirrors were heated and power folding (and I would really like the turn signal on the outside of them) then they would be on my '05 in a heart beat!
The two I saw at my local Atlanta dealer didn't have the power folding feature.

I literally wouldn't be able to back into my garage with those things (I only have about 2" on either side as it is). I'm fairly certain they would be power folding on a KR but I'm not a big fan of backing such a big truck with just the rear-view. I guess I'm also of the school of thought that they look a bit out of place on an F-150, from an aesthetics perspective.
Heck, I alread had one guy knock one of my mirrors off with one attached to his moving truck. Cost him dang near 500 bucks to replace, too...

I would much rather back my truck in to the garage but I agree with you, the tail lights/bumpers are too expensive to risk on just my rear view mirror!

One thing I saw that may be of interest to you was a little yellow rubber peice that goes on your garage floor. What you do is drive onto it and leave one of your tires on it. It's got little humps on the edges so you feel when you've driven over it. Since you would probably be aligned left-to-right by the time you got your truck most of the way in, you could just fold your mirrors before crossing into the garage and then just back a little further until you hit your stopper. A thought anyway...

You just may think it looks cheap too

I currently "cheat" with a latex coated chain (I think I stole it from one of my mom's hanging plant holders that all moms seem to have...) that tells me how far I need to go - I will certainly be looking out for these things next time I'm in Wal-Mart/Home Depot/Target/Lowe's/etc..
Yeah, they probably do carry them, and probably at a good price. Just a quick Google of "garage floor stop" came up with this:

I've never done business with these guys and I'm not recommending them. They just happened to have a photo of exactly what I had in mind. Is this the same thing you've seen in the stores?
