KR running board help

OK, here goes with my first request for assistance. As I wait on my truck to be built I would like to try to decide on how to handle the running boards which I just found out were standard from the factory. I really don't have a problem with them although if I could choose I would have picked nerf bars. My requirement is that I have easy access to the bed from the side. I had planned on doing this with wheel to wheel black (chrome is too bright for a KR) nerf bars. I could take off the stock boards and sell them or I could see if there is a company selling matching running board extensions for the bed. Also, have people found the stock boards are hard to keep clean given their color?

The factory boards aren't terribly hard to keep clean because of their color, but rather their design. They seem to trap water and whatever else gets thrown up on them by the front tires rather well on mine.

I was in the same boat as you a couple months back. I wanted chrome step bars, but the truck came standard with the Molded ones, so there was no sense in deleteing them from the build sheet.

Once I got them they started to grow on me. At first my biggest complaint was that they made the truck look lower, but a 2" AS and 305/65/18's solved that. I don't plan on getting rid of them now. They are a nice big sturdy platform to stand on and it actually goes nice with the 2-tone Pueblo Gold accent.

I also appreciate that they help keep the lower door panels cleaner. I seldom get grease, tar, etc., on the doors that have to be cleaned with some kind of distallate.

I called our local Ranch Hand dealer and asked about options when ordering their products, running boards, nerf bars, bumpers, grill gards, headache racks, rails, etc. I was told they can have their product powder coated to match the pueblo gold that comes on the KR. I haven't gone by to verify this yet. They said that they had a Ford bumper in the show room the color I need. If this works this would be great because I can then have the nerf bars or running boards matched to blend with the lower body color as well as give all the accessories that custom look. It is either this or go all black with the forest green paint.

I took my factory ones off sold them on here. Later I bought a set of stainless nerf bars and came out $150 ahead. As far as I know the KR is the only truck available with this color boards. If bought from the dealer the boards will run something like $750. If you do take them off someone on here will snap them up.
