Aux stereo input for 2005

I am wondering if there is a way to add a stereo headphone jack type input for the aux function on the stereo system. I believe the 2007 has this feature up in the tray on the dash. I want to add this to a 2005.

You can use the Search Feature on the forum to find hours of reading on this subject...there is a guy here "Nuttingbutaford" who specializes in this.

What you need is called the PIE adapter. Very simple device that 'tricks' the stereo into thinking that there is an actual device attached which, in turn, makes it work through your AUX button.

I had one on my truck for my XM MyFi over a year ago... I've since pulled it and upgraded but, it worked PERFECTLY.... MUCH better than a FM Modulator.

Thanks for the comments.
The problem I seem to have is that the PIE adapters state they are not compatible if you have the rear seat dvd system. I have the rear seat dvd system.

Ahhh.... I believe you're correct on the PIE/DVD conflict. Sorry about that... Not sure what to recommend with that said...Sorry!

I have checked with a few custom stereo places and they all said the same thing. The PIE adapter does not work if you have the rear seat entertainment setup. Not sure where to go from here. I wonder if the 07 can be equipped with both, if so, then I have some hope anyway.

Which rear DVD system do you have? I've got a Myron & Davis unit that just broadcasts the audio on 88.7MHz or something similar, so there is no direct connection to the head unit/radio. I was able to run an AUX input because of this in mine.

I believe his is factory installed and, as such, it connects through the factory head unit. You have a FM-modulated setup which, I believe, is what he's trying to side-step because of the lack of audio quality when modulated...

Correct RockPick. It is a factory unit.

That's what I had figured, and I also tend to speed-read forums while at work

The FM audio quality on mine was bearable with the factory unit, but after adding my AVIC-N3 there is a drastic improvement, very little, if any interference/static.

I've got no idea how the aux input is set up on the factory radio, but is there any way to install a splitter on the line somewhere that would allow a second audio source to come through the AUX input? That may work if the DVD player wasn't putting out any audio and you wanted to interface an iPod/MP3/whatever.

If that's a knuckle-head idea please excuse my ignorance.

I like the idea of adding a double pole double throw switch. One direction would be DVD system, the other would be AUX input.

Anyone interesting in a little hacking?

I have a 2007 with the aux jack there so it's not a "fix" I need. I would rather have the true ford iPod connector, but hardware that works is a good start.
