New Woodgrain Steering Wheel Installed...

Just got done swapping out the stock Castano leather-wrapped steering wheel for a woodgrain version. The swap was actually very easy.

Here are some pics...

There are two round plastic access hole covers on either side of the steering wheel. Just pop them out to gain access to the two bolts (one on each side) securing the airbag module to the steering wheel. You'll need a 5/16" socket to remove them...

Close up of the access hole...

The airbag module will fall forward (toward you). Just grab it and rest it on top of the steering column to expose some electrical connectors you will need to disconnect...

The three arrows point to the connectors you need to disconnect. You'll just set the airbag module up on the dashboard. Next, you'll need a Torx Tip (T50) to remove the bolt holding the steering wheel to the column. Once removed, take a 2-jaw puller and remove the steering wheel...

Here is the column exposed once you remove the steering wheel...

When you get it on the bench, you'll need to swap over the steering wheel controls and back plastic trim piece (use a phillips head screwdriver for the plastic trim and a 5/16" socket for the steering wheel controls)...

Here is the final product. The tan matches perfectly, but the wood is slightly off. Color is the same, but the pattern is a burl instead of a rosewood...

Looks sweet!
2 questions.
Where did you get it and how much did it cost?
How come you didn't set off the airbag before reinstalling it?

Purchased it off eBay for $165 plus $30 shipping plus $50 core charge. So, $245 total. If I return my original it would only be $195. But, I don't intend to send back my Castano leather-wrapped wheel.

As for the airbag, hahaha...I don't need that mess in my new truck!

That looks good....new. That tan part is gonna look terrible when it gets dirty though! I know our leather KR steering wheel gets dirty too, but it doesn't show nearly as bad as a dirty tan steering wheel. My best friend has that same exact steering wheel in his F-150 and I always tease him about having a "ghetto looking" steering wheel on a nice clean truck since he can't seem to keep it clean...lol Too bad they couldn't wrap the wood grain all the way around.

My 04 F150 lariat steering wheel still looked new when I traded it.

He didn't have that available when I purchased the one I did. He makes them in cycles and he doesn't always have the combo you may need at the time you order.

srdkevin - Yes, he is a good seller. I would buy from him again.

X2

If you don't mind, can you take a closeup of the wood on the wheel?
