Sound System

I know ther are many upgrades that can be done to the sound system.
I went to a couple of places and they all said a sub and amp to start.
But!! the price is like $1200.00 for amp, sub wires & instalation Whew!!
Has anyone just changed the door speakers and if so what is a good sounding speaker to use, or any other options..
I do not want to change the head unit.

Thanks

I put a Pioneer DVD 5700 head unit in, Fosgate Speakers in the doors and back....2 amps and a digital Cap, with 2 Earthquake 10" subs. Also have the IPOD direct interface.

To do this you must make some sacrifices. Have to remove the cargo tray in back...remove the cargo tray behind seats.

How does it sound? Freaking amazing.

You can always just get subs and one mono amp using the stock head unit. But once you do that, you'll want more.

I have over 4500 in mine but......but.....that also includes moving it from my old F150 to my new F250 and upgraded the subs.

Check out the sound forums. The MTX box is made of a molded plastic with a single 10 and you can get it with a amp or not for about $250-350. Head units can be had for $100-$2500 depends on what you want.

Just my .02 on the MTX ThunderForms...they are very average. B/C they are made of plastic...they seem to have a strange resonance associated with them. But for perfect fits, they do work, however, there are much better choices out there. The most important thing to keep in mind is box size matched with Sub. Then power it properly. Under powered subs sound bad...so do over powered subs...but none of this really matters if the box is too small.

These are lessons learned the expensive way. I have lots of new subs laying around for sale. Boxes too.

Very impressive, looks like a good install.
The sub woofer I was looking at was 500.00 with the custom incloser (JL brand)for the center console.
