Squeaky folding mirror

So my driver's side folding mirror recently started squeaking and shuddering as it folds in or out. Seems like it must need some kind of lubricating.

I figure I'll have them address it at the next oil change, which is less than 1000 miles in the future, but I was wondering if anybody has experienced this before?

No problems with mine but, I do note that they don't fold 'together' any more. In short, one closes quicker than the other... Obviously, not that big of a deal but, they used to be 'mirror' images of eachother...

I've been curious as to how many KR owners regularly fold-in the mirrors? In my case the space at both my home garage and work garage necessitate folding them, so out of habit I flip them in whenever parked.

I too have recently noticed that one mirror or the other will occasionally make the squeak and shudder you mentioned. Although they never seem to be causing me trouble when I'm in for service so I haven't had anything done. While I'm sure some lube would help I kinda have the impression that it may be related to normal road grime buildup as the squeaks seem dissappear after a good wash.

Given that most of us KR'ers keep the trucks spotless this may never be an issue.

I make it a habit

I pretty much always fold them in - it's just about a habit by now. Pull into the spot, foot on brake, put it in park, set the parking brake, foot off brake, turn off climate control, turn off engine, fold in mirrors, unbuckle seatbelt, open door, get out.

It sounds like a big production but it takes much less time to do it then it does to read it.

I started doing it because the driveway in our current house is a bit narrow, so walking in between the truck and my wife's car is tough if I don't fold them in. Started doing it in parking lots (geez, that doesn't look right now that I see it in writing) out of courtesy to those parking next to me and because I didn't want my mirrors banged into. On one occasion I did not fold them in and came back to find that someone had pushed one in manually. I didn't care for that much.

As far as cleanliness, I have been muy mucho busy recently and haven't had a chance to wash it for a couple weeks. It is most definitely the dirtiest it's been since I bought it (coming up on one whole year pretty soon). I would hope that a little road grime wouldn't be enough to screw up the mirror operation...

Automatic Mirror Folding

Hello Everyone!!

Does anyone know of a device (or neat rig) to make the mirrors fold in automatically whenever the engine is turned off. Then fold out when the engine is turned back on?

Thanks,
EMoe

Just a simple D-switch motor control ciruit will do it. With a couple of small relays I think you could do it without much problem.
