Grill Guard Rip Off

I spotted the J.C. Whitney "Free Shipping" ad on our KR site and thought it may be a good time to pull the trigger on a grill guard for my new KR. The grill guard I wanted was black because I am going to have Line-X paint it, and sells for $199.99. A good price with "Free Shipping", I thought. I went to their site, entered my item number, was given a screen that listed my item price and estimated shipping at $18.99 and a place to put in the shipping discount code, then I filled out all the credit card info and went to check-out. The final review screen showed the $199.99 for the item, an $18.99 discount and then a new $68.99 charge for "Shipping & Handling". I stopped the process and called their customer service to see if there was a mistake. After 10 minutes on hold I spoke to a lady that said because it 'had to be delivered by a truck that price was correct". I said we have large computer systems delivered by UPS to our company everyday that weigh the same and the price is never that high. She basically said thats the way it is. Next I hit "CANCEL ORDER". I am alerting you all to be careful with JC Whitney, a 35% upcharge on a item with 'Free Shipping' is way beyond extreme.

As stated on J.C. Whitney's web site:

Free Shipping applies to standard method only. Free Shipping offer does not apply to large item surcharges.

Most if not all of the grille guards offered are shipped as follows:

Shipped Directly From the Factory by Truck/Air Freight. Same as F above, but shipped from the factory by truck/air freight. An additional charge of $50 to $100 per item will apply, depending upon the item size. Assistance may be required in unloading heavy, bulky merchandise. Once unloaded, the driver is not required to further assist you in moving your order beyond that point.
----------
While I agree that they do not specifically state the requirements on the "Free Shipping" ad (over $75.00 ordered), all of the required information pertaining to the grille guard you originally wanted is there / published as required.

No scam here - just need to read a bit more pertaining to heavy items.

If you're looking for a great deal on one of the best grille guards made for the KR, take a look at the one that I purchased: GO RHINO SUMATRA 3000 EURO STYLE STEP GRILLE GUARD - BLACK - and shipping is only $38.00 (I happened to get mine when they had a Father's Day special - 15% off with FREE shipping).

It is easy to install and looks great - see it here.

Thanks cjw3cma. I understand to a point. My issue is that when I entered the item I wanted to order, the next screen that came up showed the Grill Guard and specifically said shipping and handling $18.99 with a space to enter the "Free Shipping" code. The next screen was the credit card information and not until you selected the "Check Out" button did the $68.99 appear.

I went to your link, great looking Grill Guard but when I filled in my truck information it said they had no item to match my KR.

Thanks Anyway.
