KRs Everywhere!

OK, up until just very recently, I could count all of the KRs passed on Colorado Springs roadways on one hand and still have digits to spare. Got a beep and a honk from a new KR in the neighborhood the other day -- very cool. Amazingly, today, I ran into the following...

At Peterson Air Force Base there exists a campus of sorts where there are numerous major military headquarters facilities. This obviously presents a parking challenge and there is a large overflow lot almost out of visible range. I personally don't care for parking lot dings and scratches on my truck (I'll take anything from a 4WD trail - just don't give me some j@ack@a$$ with a careless door), so I usually head for the back 40 and hike. Today I passed -- get this -- FOUR F-150 KRs and TWO F-250 KRs on my walk from the back 40 to the campus. Who knows how many I didn't see? -- these were just the ones that caught my eye walking in!

Then...I passed two F-150 KRs on the drive home tonight. Sheesh!

This tells me two things:

1. The military pays one whole hell of a lot better than it did in my day.

2. Ford is cranking these babies out, as was contemplated in an earlier thread last year.

Any of you folks out there stationed at Peterson?

And further considering "two things" no. 1 from above, I suppose the following is likely the case...

There are lots of guys and gals coming home to this military community with a year or so of combat service in Iraq or Afghanistan under their belts (thank you, thank you, thank you). With all of the combat pay and tax exemptions, it certainly seems reasonable that a nice truck would be a just-deserved reward to self!

I'm not b!tching about any of this (hope it didn't come off that way), just was very blown away by what I saw in that overflow lot today, especially considering how few KRs I have been seeing around town up 'til now.

Since the kr was first released they have been extremely popular here, as with lariats and harley editions too.

Higher profit margin at nearly the same production cost...

&

Demand...

That, in my opinion, is why Ford opted to not limit production numbers on the KR and, in fact, have increased availablilty across various models.

Botique Models = More $$ in Ford's pocket

Took a trip off of the mountain yesterday and while in the "big city" (Chico, CA) I did see two (2) '06 King Ranch F-350's with nearly every bell and whistle that would be desired on a truck like that. Neither had issued plates yet. Nice looking rigs - just MORE truck than I would ever use.

Yeah, I know what you mean. One of my neighbors has a beautiful F-250 Lariat that's been heavily mod'ed for off road and towing. I have to admit that I'm a secret admirer of that truck! But he parks it outside because it won't fit in the garage (we live in a 1960s neighborhood). That, along with the noise of the diesel and the fuel economy, is why I elected to stay down in the F-150s. I just don't do enough of that stuff to warrant having a Super Duty.

I see '05 and '06's all over this place...very few of the old body style. Which is fine with me since I have the old body style.

I own a KR extended cab (4dr model). I have been looking around and have not seen one other extended cab KR in Manitoba...Have see many KR supercrews so I'm thinking mine must have been a special order or something.

My `02 KR is a Supercab model. Likewise, very few around here. I have seen two others locally but many KR Screws.

When I got mine there were only 2 other KR's one old and one new body style.
Now Its common to pass one almost every day on the road. My dealer only had one 05 150 KR on the lot last year. I rode by my the dealer ship the other day and they had 3 150 KR's & 1 250KR on the lot. Looks like they are getting very popular.

I love my F-350 KR, but I wouldn't have gotten it if I didn't need it. I have 5 horses that get moved occasionally, and I'm always hauling hay and other items. I need to get one of those stickers that states "Yes it's my truck. No, I won't help you move."

The diesel in this one is MUCH quieter than my 99 was. Plus it does get better fuel mileage.
