Wind Noise

There are just about 7K miles on the '06 KR now. We're approaching towing season here in the NE, which means this truck is going to spend a lot of time out on the highway. I fish A LOT.
I'm trying really hard to ignore an annoying ideosyncrasy of this truck, but it is going to be a long season if this continues. Do any of you notice an unusual amount of wind noise as your truck gets going over 45 MPH? Specifically, the sound seems to be from the general area of the windscreen.
To clarify, this is not when I am towing. It's just regular driving conditions. I fear strapping boats and big camping trailers on will make it worse.

Sounds very personal and maybe you need one of those Yankee Candle gadgets I have been reading about.
If you condition your seats making the leather softer it may mute the tone?

Now seriously,
Why do you think I would pay all that money for a truck with a huge interior, sliding sun roof and push button rear window opener? These "internal emmision control" contingencies have been anticipated and the appropriate controls have been placed. Rest assured that my brothers and I have tested the air clearance rate on this truck several times already under conditions much harsher than mere prunes.
Bratwurst and Porter. Now there's a benchmark test bed. Really, you give me such little credit.
Prunes? No problem! Now, about that wind noise????

Hey Grady -- there has been some talk about windshield 'wind' noise within the 04+ forum.... I tried a quick search and had far too many hits to filter through but, you may give it a whirl.

There may even be a TSB out about this issue... I can't remember.

Thanks,
You know, I have had trucks pretty much my whole driving life. I know they are not exactly aerodynamic wedges, but this one just seems to be noisy. I will look too, but if you do find anything I would appreciate the heads up.
Maybe a small bug shield on the front or something might just alter the airflow enough to correct this.

Re;Wind noise

Goodday all I have a 2005 screw with the same wind noise,or should i say had.The solution to the problem is to put a small spacer,or what have you, between the windsheild and the black plastic air vents. The exact spot does not matter,I used plastic stoppers that were sticky on one side and pried the plastic a way from the windsheild and stuck them to it about every 10 inches or so.Problem solved, and no the dealer could not fix it after numerous tries.Hope this helps.

Good idea. I remember having to do something similar to this shortly after taking delivery on my Suburban back in the late 90s. I'll look at this and get back to you. Thanks.

I share your request and hope the poster of this can accomodate us all.

On my '99 Suburban, there was a black plastic grill located between the engine hood and the windscreen glass. To orient you properly, the wiper assemblies eminated from there. As that vehicle increased speed, that grill seemed to set up a sympathetic harmonic vibration, which appeared to be due primarily to the designers not adequately reciprocating this with sufficient anchorage of the grill to the truck body. Air turbulance initiated the vibration, and it sounded pretty darn loud in the cabin.

It was impressive to happen upon a well experienced mechanic at the Chevy dealer who must have been familiar with my complaint. How he diagnosed it was to take the shop rag out of his pocket and stuff it under the grate in such a way as to displace it from it's designed rest position. We then test drove the vehicle with the rag in place and low and behold, the noise was completely gone. On returning to the dealership, we devised a system of shims using adhesives and plastic fragments, which from that moment on totally eradicated this peculiar abberation.

I am assuming that our collegue here has a similar story to tell with respect to his modification. It is my intention to test the KR in like fashion. I will report back my observations. Until then, I welcome any and all suggestions which target the mechanical or design perameters that may be influenced by reasonable intervention. Contrary to the apparent prevailing wisdom, is a matter of the most questionable conjecture as to whether diet modification might produce a meaningful result! However, upon review by this esteemed board of inquiry, if the conclusion that prunes, fiber and porter are the causitive factors, such measures as are necessary will be instituted. For now, I believe there is room for at least a slightly more articulate discourse!
