rear sway bar on 05 KR

over on the 04-06 group there was a discussion about rear sway bars. i had been thinking for a while that this could improve handling on my 05 KR. i ordered it and installed it this past monday. install was pretty easy. about an hour and a half. handling is GREATLY improved. the truck no longer dives into the turn. the rear end of the truck does not hop up in the air when it hits a bump like it did before. there are a few bumps that i try to avoid but end up hitting and without fail the rear end is up inthe air. so for comparison i hit them today and the impact is way different. this truck will never handle like a sports car but the difference is very noticeable. i have to say its the best $180.00 i have spent on a truck mod.

its an 05 4wd KR. got it from suspensionconnection.com. the SKU number they have for it is 7663 priced at 179.95

http://www.suspensionconnection.com/...scon/7663.html.

drove home in some pretty heavy rain last night and could only think of how stupid it was for ford not to put it on right from the factory.

Can you take a picture of that installed on your truck?

Thanks.

i tried to copy and paste the picture from another thread but it did not work. do a search under the 04 - 06 group for "4x4 rear sway bar installation.... ". thats where i got the info. on about the 6th post down there is a picture that was scanned from the instructions. the bar u bolts to the axle. then there are 2 rods that ubolt to the round crosstube under the bed and connect to the swaybar. its that simple. i will try to get some pictures. but hope this helps in the mean while.

Question

Does the sway bar affect the ride? Does it ride rougher with it?

the stiffness and ride when truck is going straight on a smooth road is unaffected. very often when i would hit bumps the back end would jump up in the air and come down sometimes what felt like a foot to the left or right. i was speaking to a guy and he says that he experiences the same thing every day at the same spot. so for some unscientific experimenting i hit that bump before and after and the difference was dramatic. truck stays on the ground and just eats the bump up. i did not get this hop when i had weight, say 500 pounds in the back. so it is similar to that on the bumps without the sag and feel of a load.

on the turns the truck does not tip in or lean over into the turn like it used to. i am really surprised at the difference it made. the other night it was raining real hard and the truck seemed to grab the road on turns a lot tighter. i dont think you would be disapointed in getting this. besides its relatively cheap and easy to install. worst case take it off and give it to a friend.

hope this description helps

I can't see how this would be limited to 4X4's.

Do the instructions say this can't be mounted on a 2WD F150?

This is a very cool mod and one I'll have to add to my "wish list". I have a very noticeable hop over speed bumps and it sounds like this would help. I'm going over to the 04-06 forum to get some more info... Thanks for the post!

I'm trying to figure out the down side of these.

Ford puts them on the front end, so why not on the back?

Could it just be a money saving reason, or is there some other reason these don't come from the factory?

Could it reduce payload or towing limits at all?
